My boyfriend and I trekked up to Bushwick from sunset park to try this place out that was highly recommended by ny mag's best cheap eats. It was a HUGE let down, the food was not good! No flavor and I'm pretty sure that was easy-Mac that came with the tasteless fried chicken. We had to request that our mimosas be topped off with champagne because we were basically drinking straight subpar oj. And the place was just plain dirty. It's a place that shouldn't be seen in daylight. It's obvious that mama joy's should just focus on the dive bar it's meant to be. Definitely never going back.

High-end southern food in Bushwick?!? The shrimp and grits are fantastic and the servers are attentive and courteous. There was southern rock anthems and blue grass music playing. I'm not much of a bourbon and whiskey person, but the bartender gave great recommendations.

Just had dinner at Mama Joy's, amazing food! The pork duo, beef cheek and hush puppies were all great and the drinks as well!! Atmosphere is relaxed and casual with good music. Highly recommended, will definitely be back!
