    52nd Street is better

Served by a Rosa Klebb look-alike, whose disposition mirrored her appearance. Her first utterance was "Do you want sparkling or non-sparkling water?" I said tap water would be fine. Her scowl suggested she had detected an unseemly odor emanating from the Lubyanka. After the tap water and a "fire-grilled pizza" (which, mysteriously, turned cold in minutes), Rosa wheeled out the serving cart, laden with both the main courses, which she readily served, and the side orders which she forgot. Perhaps she had a pressing engagement elsewhere. At my bidding, the check however, was delivered efficiently. When I signed the credit card voucher, Rosa swooped down to retrieve it, so as to scrutinize the gratuity (new footwear, perhaps).

A Lovely Retreat for Christmas Shoppers

We were in town shopping this Sat. and stopped in for lunch at 12:30. Even without reservations, we were seated immediately. The dining room was pretty and festive. It was not crowded. The staff was attentive and friendly. We ordered the oysters, crabcake (excellent), salads (perfect and fresh), shrimp coctail (huge and the best shrimp I have ever eaten), and a cheeseburger (enormous and delicious). The bread basket was the best -- spice mini muffins, mini scones, rolls, etc. Was not too expensive ($130 for 3 before tip - no alcohol). I will be back for sure!

    rebttal to the british reviewer

someone should mention to the reviewer a few down from here that waiters in the USA salary is based on tips. they make far below the minimum wage and rely on tips to compensate and just because it's not customary in other countries to tip like it is in the USA, if they are going to visit here they better get used to our customs - waiters are held responsible by the IRS based on a percentage of their sales, not whether or not a customer actually tips on the check. if the waiter expected a $30 tip and the customer planned on only leaving $10. something is wrong with the customer's perception of how tipping in this country works.

    great time

A friend invited me to Maloney & Porcelli for dinner. I had never been but wow what a place. We had a great time and had a great meal. I was so impressed I made a reservation for next week to bring my wife.

    Tip at your peril,,!

Went to M&P to celebrate my partners 30th birthday. Food and wine were pretty good; hers better than mine, but that's the luck of the draw. Paid for the meal having left a $10 tip on the basis that service was average at best (and that's being generous). The waiter then took time to come back over to us and ask whether there was something wrong with the service. When I replied no, he pointed out that he expected a tip of around $30, I explained that I added what I wanted and would not be adding any more. Mediocrity should not be rewarded especially in the service industry, but it appears that the US tipping culture just continues to support this. For waiters to expect that they are entitled to a large tip and have the arrogance to request more for average service is fundamentally wrong. So be warned, food ok but comes with waiters with attitude. The worst thing was that it spoilt an otherwise excellent evening, so thanks M&P!

    Too much fun!

We had a group of three girls and two guys do the 75$ prix-fix all you can drink menu last Saturday and it was one of the best nights I've had in New York. The servers were funny, professional, and attentive. The food was amazing as well. I can't wait to go back!

    great time

we had a great time at dinner the last night. We went to the restaurant after one of our friends told us to go. We had one of the best meals that we have had in a while. I had steak and my wife had scallops. They were absolutly great. The wait staff was very attentive and our whole experience was very good. We are definately going back.
