Mediocre and Passe"
I hadn't been to M&P in about 15 years. I ran an office in midtown and when clients came in from Europe, they wanted steak. It was walking distance. I even took my top management there the same year- it was trendy. The food was actually very good then when the place was new. Location, location: A lot of midtown business men. Suits. I assume that they work nearby. Steak Lovers: It ain't Peter Luger, Wolfgang's, not even BLT Steak. I would venture even The Palm is better, although I haven't been there in years. For about $45 per piece of meat, the quality does not live up to the price. I guess if you have a few martinis and are on an expense account that doesn't matter. The restaurant was full. There are much better steakhouses in Manhattan. This one is mediocre, overpriced and passe'.

Great Meal for Special Occassions
I come here for the steak and shellfish and am never disappointed. I've had the shellfish tower, filet, lobster, and NY Strip and all were delicious and perfectly prepared. Yes its expensive but so is every other restuarant in town serving comparable menus. If you truly like steak and seafood you will not be disappointed. Drinks are strong as well.

Had a great time here! The food was excellent and our friends love this place.

Too corporate
This is a typical midtown corporate steakhouse. It's formal and nice, but the food is mediocre, service is on a mission to get the most money out of you, and overall atmosphere lacks excitement. Needless to say, it's overpriced, so go there only if your employer pays the bill. Otherwise, your money are better spent elsewhere.

If you have low standards...
I would say if you can cook, have your steak at home. This place is overrated, and I could cook a better steak, and for $44 a steak, I could cook a steak for 4 of my friends too. Way too many steakhouses to waste your time.

Overpriced
Went here for lunch; can't speak for the meat, but the salad I had was pretty poor for the ridiculous $29 price tag. Yes, I said $29. For a salad; luckily I wasn't paying. I would have had better food (at certainly more value) at any midtown deli with a salad bar. Even the end-of-meal espresso was no good. Service was, however, polite and efficient. My opinion - save your money and go someplace else. There are plenty of decent, upscale places in midtown that will give you value for money. This place sure won't.

If you like big juicy chunks of cow
this is your place. The rib steak is fantastic, the cracking pork shank is porklicious and the angry lobster is the best I have ever had. I love the Caesar salad as well as the hash browns which have delicious crispy crunchy bits. The service was attentive, friendly yet polite and certainly not overbearing. Save room for coconut cake- creamy and coconutty. It is my favorite steakhouse in NYC by far.
