A Real Find! We loved it!
Maloney and Porcelli was recommeded to us by discerning friends. Had an important business dinner there. The food was exceptional and the wine list special. Service was the best (we had some special requirements and the staff could not have been more helpful). And, I was actually surprised when the check came that the amount was so reasonable. We can't wait to have the chance to go back!

Not recommended
I am very angry as a longtime customer and having hosted larger parties there to have had a very disappointing experience 2/25 for the wine dinner. Let's just say the management is not the same and it shows. I was hustled into changing the time of my reservation even though on a Saturday night the restaurant was more than half empty when our party of 4 arrived and departed. They ran out of a signature menu item (Coconut cake)in the 8pm hour and although our party of 4 all ordered and paid for the wine dinner and only 2 drank, when one woman asked for a glass of red wine with dessert and coffee, we were told that new policy was they stopped pouring during after the main course. Why not mention that earlier or make a value judgment if the wine is now a problem for M&P. I am very disappointed. I guess it pays to stick to places where we are known and welcome. I think this negative experience was exasperated further by the wait staff and manager who made it clear he could care less. Very disappointed.

Mediocre and Passe"
I hadn't been to M&P in about 15 years. I ran an office in midtown and when clients came in from Europe, they wanted steak. It was walking distance. I even took my top management there the same year- it was trendy. The food was actually very good then when the place was new. Location, location: A lot of midtown business men. Suits. I assume that they work nearby. Steak Lovers: It ain't Peter Luger, Wolfgang's, not even BLT Steak. I would venture even The Palm is better, although I haven't been there in years. For about $45 per piece of meat, the quality does not live up to the price. I guess if you have a few martinis and are on an expense account that doesn't matter. The restaurant was full. There are much better steakhouses in Manhattan. This one is mediocre, overpriced and passe'.

Great Meal for Special Occassions
I come here for the steak and shellfish and am never disappointed. I've had the shellfish tower, filet, lobster, and NY Strip and all were delicious and perfectly prepared. Yes its expensive but so is every other restuarant in town serving comparable menus. If you truly like steak and seafood you will not be disappointed. Drinks are strong as well.

Too corporate
This is a typical midtown corporate steakhouse. It's formal and nice, but the food is mediocre, service is on a mission to get the most money out of you, and overall atmosphere lacks excitement. Needless to say, it's overpriced, so go there only if your employer pays the bill. Otherwise, your money are better spent elsewhere.

If you have low standards...
I would say if you can cook, have your steak at home. This place is overrated, and I could cook a better steak, and for $44 a steak, I could cook a steak for 4 of my friends too. Way too many steakhouses to waste your time.
