breakfast and comedy
In a downpour, I came to the Malibu diner in search of my favorite NYC breakfast: egg on a roll, and in a hurry. The breakfast I got was over-the-top. This simple dish was done to perfection--eggs just the way I like 'em with all the accoutrements on the flakiest roll, served immediately, with steaming coffee and a heavy side of humor. The main waiter greeted everyone who entered with charm and humor,"Harry, will you have your usual--coffee and eleven Splendas In answer to a customer's request for "real butter on my toast, please," The waiter responded, "We only cook with the real stuff here, that fake stuff is the road to ruin." On a dreary midweek morning where streets were flooded and we all entered soaked, there wasn't a customer who wasn't laughing and tucking into a delicous meal. I highly recommend.

One reason why we love NY!
Our room wasn't ready after a long 10 hour drive on the bus. We decided to have breakfast at Malibu's and I'm so glad that we did!! I think the owner of the restaurant waited on us and he referred to us as his "southern beauties." He made us feel at home. We ate there 3 times during our weekend visit. The food was delicious! The price was great and we were treated very well. The staff couldn't have been nicer. I will be looking for Malibu Diner when I go back and I am recommending this diner to anyone going to NY. The coffee, pancakes, large muffins, and fresh fruit are to die for! I ordered a "side" of bacon which resembled an entire package of bacon upon delivery! You get more food than you can eat. LOVED IT!!

A real filling breakfast
It has become a bit of a family tradition to take the redeye MegaBus from Baltimore, arriving Manhattan at 4:30AM, and stroll into Malibu Diner, linger over breakfast, and wait for the world to wake up. The staff is always very friendly (handling our luggage almost like a hotel) and attentive. This is a great place for a real American breakfast. Comfy booths. Generous portions. Large selection. Eggs cooked correctly to order. Not much traffic at this hour. I can't speak for other meals, but would be happy to try them at other times of the day if I happen to be in the neighborhood.

Home and "High" on Life--Of Course I Ordered from a Diner!
It all began when we called and were put on hold for about 3 minutes. We were then greeted by an angry: "Address Please!!" to which we were confused and said, "Hello...Can we place an order for delivery?" We were immediately cut off--shut down--with a "address please!"...and I was like "Oh my dear sweet Jesus! That was not necessary!" I then ordered my meal to which I was put on hold 3 other times for reasons that were never explained to me. The delivery was quick and prompt within 15 minutes of ordering. The man's pinky fingernail was so long that he scratched me upon exchanging the money for the food. We opened our plastic white I Love New York bag and were sort of disappointed with what we saw...But hold on! Some of it's OK. First, we ordered a toasted bagel w cream cheese and lox--Instead we got a toasted stale bagel that smelled like moldy, bath watery, feet with 2 unspread blocks of cream cheese.....and no lox! PS--we paid for the lox. Moving on, our "santorini wrap" with sweet potato fries looked good at first glance. When we bit into our wrap our goat cheese (we replaced the feta) was overwhelmingly abundant. Every bite was smothered w goat cheese....not OK....sweet potato fries were MEH. And when i bit into one there was a strange spice that gave me a tooth pain and i had to spit out all the food that was in my mouth. Anyway we clearly cut our entree short and went right to dessert. While very disappointed that there was no thick graham cracker crust, the cheesecake with strawberry preserves proved to be fluffy, fresh, and completely demolished upon termination. The brownie had 3 levels of experiences--all very different. One being a smooth creamy moussey swirl at the top. Two was a thick chocolate covering reminiscent of the top of the chocolate half of a black and white cookie. Three..well...the chalky, flavorless, "brownie" underneath these two decadent delights, was....not good. At the end of this Malibu Diner experience..if i heard about another diner that had some killer sweet potato fries and graham cracker crustsss, I'd probably call them first.

Love this place
We have eaten at the Malibu Diner several times. The food is very good, the service is attentive, the atmosphere is friendly and the value is great, especially for NYC. I would recommend this diner to anyone. My kids loved it and they always want to eat here when we visit NYC.

This place is only good for a grilled cheese. I have had grilled cheese here..but ordered a "fish n chips" special for lunch one day for about $12.. I got 5 fish sticks and some french fries. Was this really supposed to be from a kids meal..because I wouldn't have fed this to my dog!!
