I understand having "cash only" to keep the prices down, however, the prices do not reflect this. Although the sauce was good, the pasta dishes show no imagination whatsoever. If I wanted to die of the heat with a pathetic rotating fan I could have stayed at home, turned on my oven to cook and had the same effect. There are recent nights when the air-conditioning is necessary. And lastly do NOT order the Chianti, my daughter said it is exactly like Robitussin, an apt description.

I ordered the veal meatballs... $16 and we got 5 small meatballs... some tasteless sauce and 2 little pieces of bread. I'll never go back.

Place was extremely loud. Sat down for dinner at 7:30, out by 8:45. Ordered the ragu, pasta good sauce flavorless. Will not be returning and would not recommend. Very disappointed.

Consistently excellent food, attentive, friendly service, never get tired. For the last seven years, we have come at least once a month, sometimes 2 or 3 times a month. The sauces are flavorful, but not heavy. So many Americans are used to thick, Southern Italian style pasta sauces that they may not be familiar with the fresh, light but perfectly flavored dishes served up at Malatesta, which serves Northern Italian food at its fresh best.

Great food, excellent service, nice atmosphere. I tried everything on the menu and never been disappointed - strongly recommended!

I've heard about this place over and over and this was my second visit. Both times I found the food to be quite ordinary and flavorless. While the pasta itself is fresh and delicious, the two pasta dishes had flavorless or watery tasting sauces. The tiramisu for desert was also nothing special, having had versions twice as good at other neighborhood cafes. While there is definitely a true Italian feel to this place, and the waiters clearly capture the vibe of an Italian eatery, I've left perplexed. Wondering exactly why this place has become so trendy, popular and over rated.

After studying in Italy for four months, I was nervous that I would not be able to find Italian food up to par in NYC. After reading reviews of Malatesta I decided to give it a try, and I was very happy with the results! Most of the pastas are homemade, as indicated by a star, so I decided on a tagliatelle with a ragu sauce, while my friend had spaghetti with tomato sauce and mozzarella. The pastas were brought out quickly, but were hot and fresh and absolutely delicious. Obviously homemade, and extremely authentic tasting. For dessert we shared a chocolate mousse which was also delicious, all of which came out to 32 dollars, not including tax. Very reasonable, delicious food with good service in a nice setting. I will definitely be back.
