    So satisfying

    Just dined here for the second time. I really like this place. More a very good restaurant than a bistro, with well executed traditional cuisine at fair prices. Inventive, delicious cocktails and a warm, efficient, outgoing staff. The digs are pretty funky, low-end but it all works. I'll be back.

    I like the atmosphere but the prices have gone up and it is too pricey for what you get, especially compared to finer restaurants in the neighborhood/midtown...

    Great food

    Fantastic food in an unexpected place. Had a lovely lunch and found all items served in a short time and to perfection. Good size sides were more than enough to share.

    wish i had more...

    For the life of me, I don't get why people return. I'm not the only person with bad experiences... Visit #1: Understaffed, slow service. 45 minute wait - not the 20 predicted. Then all the food came out wrong - my medium rare steak was well. However, I ate as it arrived 90 minutes after we did, to the restaurant. I emailed the owner and he responded: "We'll make sure your next experience is lovely." Visit #2: We mentioned the owner's email and the hostess seemed confused or uninterested. Embarrassing to bring it up with no reaction. No attempt to make sure our "experience was lovely," just more kitchen issues. A burger ordered medium was well, a steak ordered medium rare was medium well and the coq in the coq au van was so dry. I emailed the owner again, no response. PS: I'm not a picky diner!!! I'm not that annoying person for whom nothing good can be done. I usually let HUGE issues slide if there's one good thing about a place. Visit #3: I'm not a masochist, I was convinced, post Mother's Day, by a French craving Mom. Got the typically cold reception upon arrival. Actually, 2 guys blocked the entrance and when asked if they were waiting, they said, "No, we work here" and went back to chatting, still blocking the doorway. Mom had to ask them to move so we could enter. But the real problem, again, the food/ kitchen/ chef. We ordered (2 burgers and the Dorade) and then waited. No bread served. After 20 minutes, we wondered what was up. 10 minutes later, the hostess said "We don't have Dorade, what else would you like?" No apology, no explanation - just a curt question. Looked over then menu for a sec and asked if the burgers were ready: "Of course, they'll be out in two minutes." I said, "Just bring the burgers, I don't want anything cause I don't want to eat alone after my family's finished." Still, no apology or explanation, she just left, annoyed, as if I'd ruined her day. We called her back to inquire about the fish and she said the chef wasn't happy with the quality. A few things... I wouldn't have had a negative reaction hadn't this been my 3rd time there with similar kitchen issues. And since when doesn't the chef check proteins before service? And why 30 minutes to realize the fish is bad? And why wouldn't the hostess approach us with empathy, offering an apology first? And when told this is the 3rd time we've visited with just as many issues, why not make amends? Instead, she walked away as snootily as she approached.

    Serious food

    Everything here is incredible! Haven't had anything less than amazing - coq au vin, hanger steak, mussels provencale, burger .... everything has been perfect! I'll get through the whole menu eventually. Live jazz music sometimes on Mondays, perfect vibe. Check it out!

    Nice looking but beware!

    I initially found them to be very friendly and nice food but the service has rapidly declined (at least later at night). Blaring loud music is not a great concept for this place. Nor is their staff dancing around (not attending to customers) pretending they are in a nightclub. What a shame. I would recommend other solid neighborhood options where this does not happen and the food is just as soon namely Yatenga and Chez Lucienne which definitely have superior service.

    I'm impressed

    I recently dined at Maison Harlem and I was impressed. Normally during an opening week I expect a few missteps, but I was surprised to have a flawless meal. We had the oysters for an appetizer and the cream of mushroom soup. The mushroom soup was delightful and the oysters were fresh. For an entree we the seafood pasta and mussels with fries. The pasta tasted homemade and fresh. The clams in the pasta were sweet and delisious. The mussels were equally good and the fries delicious. Maison Harlem is off to a great start and I look forward to brunch in the future.
