Friendly service, inexpensive, quality food
I love this place! The food is fresh, perfect portions and spicy. Warm, inviting atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. Try the stuffed squid appetizer, you will like it!

Mediocre
Extremely poor. Judgement by a Frenchman who cooks, enjoys and thinks a lot about food. We ordered Muc, Tom Xao Cari with squid today and found it plainly mediocre. There was barely any squid in the dish and the whole thing just looked like cheap and lacking chinese, with mushy vegetables and watery unsubtly flavored curry sauce. The rice - we are talking about simple steamed rice here - wasn't any better. I really hated it. I can't understand why anybody would rate this restaurant nicely.

Dry & Salty
The menu looked interesting and we were excited to try some of the delicious looking lime, coconut, and peanut enhanced dishes. The chicken satay was salty and dry and there was not nearly enough sauce to help it out and the noodles were all stuck together in a salty mess with overcooked, meager veggies. We gave up after a few bites and had to make dinner.

Mai, you are nice.
Especially polite, friendly service. The food is prepared with care and more delicacy than most restaurants serving SE Asian cuisine in NYC. Ingredients are very good quality and prices are in the $4-$8-$14 range. Portions are modest, probably in order to use good ingredients and price dishes modestly. A choice in my opinion that is much more referable to large portions of sub-par ingredients. I give Mai a thumb's up.

Great!
I love this adorable, friendly little pan-Asian restaurant. The food is consistently delicious and very reasonably priced. The service is very friendly, and the restaurant and garden are very pretty. I wish they had a longer wine list, but that's a very minor thing...

All around winner
I eat at Mai very often, because the food is fresh, and on the cheap side for south East Asian Food in new York. I always have the red or green curry. I also like their garden, it is very peacful for Atlantic Ave.

Reliable, Tasty, Reasonably Priced
Very good food, interesting specials. For example, the hanger steak they sometimes feature is excellent, and believe it or not, has a lovely southeast Asian flavor. The food is actually spicy when it is supposed to be, and the flavors are varied. I live in the neighborhood and find I can rely on Mai for a good, reasonably priced meal. My only complaint is that the chairs and tables are a little small for a tall person.
