    So-so.

Went to Mai House with friends during the Summer Restaurant Week and what a waste of time and money. Mediocre food at a ridiculous prices. We tried everything from the Prix Fix menu and only truly enjoyed the Vanilla Pana Cotta dessert. Coconut soup was overwhelmingly sweet, whereas the Lime Beef salad was bland. Ribs and Chicken were average, but tofu was poor. Mai's waitstaff were friendly and helpful.

    ...was expecting more....

This was the first restaurant we hit for Restaurant Week and we had high hopes. My husband agreed to try Vietnamese for me...not really his cup of tea. The place itself is very nicely decorated the bar was comfy and Roman, the bartender was very nice. I had checked out the menu beforehand & was disappointed that there were no rolls on the prix fixe menu. Instead you had a choice of 2 salads & a soup. The soup was delicious, but I thought the beef salad suffered from too much fish sauce. The chicken entree was dry..the crisp on one side was nice, but still dry. The only Asian thing about it was the chili sauce. The rubs were a disappointment...too sweet and no crisp.Dessert was only OK. Our server, Leah, was very gracious (I heard waitstaff don't like Restaurant Week), but she didn't notice that I barely touched my mai tai (too much liquor!!). I had high hopes, with a Top Chef finalist in the kitchen..but then again, I didn't like her on the show either.

    one word - Great!

I absolutely adore this place - from the service to the food. The waitstaff is very knowledgeable and attentive without being annoying. I also love their drinks - especially the tiger tails. Whoever thought of using pepper vodka with fruit puree is GENIUS. The fried rices I could care less about, but the pork belly and steak over onions were divine! Even the asparagus was cooked to perfection with a nice crisp to it. The only con is the massive space, which doesn't a "cozy" atmosphere. But, if you're coming for food and service, definitely come here!

    Uneven Kitchen but Shows Promise

Went here for Valentine's Day dinner-that being said, I expected the menu to be somewhat more limited than other nights. However, given that limitation, I thought that kitchen would have shined what with not having many other dishes to distract their focus. The mushroom spring rolls were underwhelming-I might have been able to taste the mushrooms if it hadn't been overpowered by the greasiness of the fried wrapper. The chile prawns were good but nothing to write home about. The entrees, though, blew me away-the duck breast was, by far, one of the best dishes I've eaten this year. The Arctic char was equally wonderful but in comparison to that duck, anything else was just mediocre. The dessert was exceptionally disappointing-it seemed as if they attempted to make a tiramisu in a heart-shaped pan. At least I assume it was tiramisu-the menu said creme brulee but it didn't look like any creme brulee I've eaten. Despite the unevenness of the kitchen, the service was excellent (did a great job helping me pick a wine for the meal) and the ambience is amazing. Hopefully, the kitchen's performance on the appetizers and dessert was an aberration because I would love to go back there and try that duck again!

    Mai House of Pain

Perhaps we visited Mai House on an off night, but recently went there and was very disappointed given the price point. Am surprised to read such glowing reviews here as this is definitely at the lower end of the quality spectrum for upscale, Asian themed restaurants. Either the prior reviewers need to get out more or we just tried some pretty bad dishes. Specific thoughts as follows: * Appetizers - B+ Mushroom Spring Rolls were ok only because they were fried however, Spicy Beef and Pomelo was a fantastic combination of flavors and by far the best dish of the night * Entrees - C+ Clay Pot Organic Chicken had an odd taste and seemed to contain very suspect pieces of meat which may not have been thoroughly cooked - despite being a small portion we only ate half Sweet Sour Spicy Whole Red Snapper had a tasty sauce with a surprising kick but not enough so much of the fish was dry * Side - F only tried the Saigon Noodles which may be one of the most disgusting noodle dishes of all time reminds me of the shady neighborhood Chinese restaurant that douses food in soy sauce and MSG * Dessert - B Banana Cake with Tapioca had interesting flavor but nothing special other than the use of tapioca * Drinks - B- Tiger Tail and Jito were creative but others not great (esp Red River) * Service - A- waitress was pleasant and explained dishes adequately manager did give us free dessert since the weather was horrible and we were one of the only people to make it that night * Décor - B. nicely appointed but not noteworthy . A bit too bright and cafeteria feel

    Excellent find-we'll be back!

we came here for dinner with friends and left certain that we'll be back again! the food was excellent - delicious, generous servings, good value - what more can you ask for? we started with 3 appetizers - mushroom spring rolls, scallops, and beef & pomelo salad; for main course, we ordered organic chicken (which my discerning friend raved about!), curry tofu (i dont normally opt for vegetarian dishes but this one was really cool by description and it exceeded all expectations), and venison. the waitress recommened a few side dishes which were excellent, too. there was barely room for dessert so we all split their banana cake and left more than satisfied. will definitely be back! dinner for 3, including service and alcohol, was $200. good deal!

    authenthic gem in Tribeca

I wanted to take my out of town friends to Nobu on a Saturday evening. We were sent to their sister restaurant, Mai House for a drink while we wait for a table. After sipping Mai House delicious coctails at the bar for more than half an hour, we decided to stay there for dinner because Nobu still have not call us. WOW...to my suprise, the food were excellent. Service was awesome. No need to say more...definitely recommend for anyone to go...
