I live for sweets, I could eat an entire cake in one sitting. The cupcakes here are not worth the hype or the line. But it is absolutely worth the trek (I live in the UES) for the Magic Cookie Bars. Delicious beyond words!

I wanted to visit the great Magnolia bakery and when i got there found that I had to fight for my cupcakes in the window. When i tried one i really didnt see the big deal. The banana pudding was good though. Disappointed.

While in NYC for the day I wanted to try Magnolias Bakery and to my suprise the cupcakes were just average, I could of gotten the same thing from the bakery at my local grocery store. But... the white choc. macademia nut cheescake was worth stopping by for. My advice is to skip the cupcakes and try something else. I look forward to returning to NYC and I will be back but not for cupcakes.

What a disappointment. Friendly people but the cupcakes are NOT worth $2.25 each! I was told it's "self-service" - to select my cupcakes that were sitting our on a tray in a window where customers can touch, pick up and put back, etc. Decided after all the hype, I would plunk down $2.25 for a modest cupcake. Well I ended up eating in out on the sidewalk as there is not single place to sit down. The cupcake was stale & dry. I was a bit intimidated to return this dry cake as there was a Japanese film crew recording a segment right in the store while I was there. I didn't want to make a scene, but this place is over-rated!

First of all, I'm not even sure that the Magnolia Bakery really exists. I have only ever been able to successfully find it once. After an hour of walking around, we spent an hour on line outside. By the time we got in, we ordered a dozen cupcakes just because we felt we had earned it. Believe me, they were definitely worth it- very moist and buttery without being too much so. But this is not something that I want to put myself through all the time.

The cupcakes are cloyingly sweet and borderline inedible. Many people complain that the cake is dry and flavorless, but I was somewhat happy about this. The icing is so sugary that I couldn't have handled any more sugar in the cake. The tourists can have this one.
