Pizza and fried squid
I love this place. It's the only pizzeria in the city where you can get fresh fried squid and shrimp. I mean fresh they make the stuff everyday. The pizza is great too and I am a big fan of the owner.

Was better before the recent renovations
i've been going to them for 10 years and am becoming disappointed lately. the prices have gone up. the same dish is sometimes charged $8-$9. pasta was way undercooked a couple times now (i know the difference btwn al dente and raw). soups have been way too salty, i mean way too salty! they sometimes forget something from the order. i think it was better before the recent renovations. i might start lkng for a new place.

I love this place. Food is always great. Did an order for my office lunch, and I got the whole place hooked. How do you go wrong.

What can I say about Maffei!
Maffei Pizza is an institution for those working around the Ladies Mile and Chelsea. On the corner of 22nd and 6th, it is not meant for a sit down lunch (and thank goodness for that). Lunch is an organized/ choreographed chaos kept at bay by Dominick's baritone offering combinations of pasta, salad, fish and what-have-you at a pace only an auctioneer can match. Portions are VERY generous and if you like fried calamari better make it before 1:30 pm. Everything is good... The pizza, well is fantastic NY Style. Great sauce with just the right amount of cheese. The Grandma pizza is one of their specialties and is true heaven. Always fresh; the turnover and clientele at lunch makes sure that happens. No attitude no brick oven no fu-fu ingredients. Just great pizza for real New Yorkers. So hide your i-phone say hi to Dom and get yerself fed. NY Style. Fuhgetaboudit... .

Don't get the spagehetti and meatballs
I just got their spaghetti and meaballs delivered. Delivery was speedy, and they were really nice, but the meatballs were GIGANTIC (could be a plus in some books, but I found it kind of gross). And, there was almost no sauce on the pasta. If you like that, though, it's a dream dish! I will definitely order from them again, just not this dish.

Weird
We had ordered from here once before and it was pretty good so we tried again tonight. We ordered a Grandma's Pizza, Chicken Parm Hero, and salad. The Hero and salad were good but the pizza was clearly under-cooked. It was doughy in the middle. I put 2 slices in the toaster oven to finish cooking them when my husband pointed out how silly it was to have to re-cook the whole pizza that we had just bought! He called Maffei to tell them the problem and the "boss" told him that he was wrong and that it was not undercooked! After a few minutes of arguing back and forth, they sent over a new pizza to exchange for the undercooked one. When the delivery boy got to the door he took the undercooked pizza and had us take 2 pieces out of the new pizza to make up for the 2 missing slices that we toasted! This is Ridiculous! Are they stupid?! We won't be back.
