someplace special
i really love madras mahal... i consider it a special feature of this neighborhood. i order delivery and dine in regularly and never seem to get sick of it. its a great place to take out-of-towners, dates, and anyone who is vegetarian or kosher. everything i have had is excellent, but i particularly love the palek paneer and the vegi koorma. the desserts are all amazing especially the shrikhand and halwa. in overall, its a really nice atmosphere, delicious food, and decent price.

Nice & Unassuming
In existence for 22 years and still bringing in the food adventurists in spite of 8 other Indian restaurants literally adjacent, across and cadicorner from it. Simple and calming decor. Variety of specialties from all over India, not just southern as many of the others traditionally do. Portions are just right. Service is laid back and this allows you the time to relax, read a book during the courses (if alone as I was on this trip). For the couple or group in a hurry, don't bother to stop. The service is typical of European style. Order....converse, drink, relax, and then the food comes. It's nice because you can really unwind in a not so unwinding busy city as New York is. Easy to arrive at too! The subway located at 28th & Park is immediately around the corner....a 3 minute walk. Definitely worth coming back. Also, for the consumer with food allergies.....Masala Tea....the sugar and cream are put on the side for your own judgement. For those allergic to dairy....stay away from the desserts; there are none without dairy. ENJOY!!

Best Dosa In town with Outstanding service
I am biggest fan of south indian food and i like my dosa certain way so i do make a big deal about my dosa if is not cooked right. Anyways i happened to be craving dosa one night and i ended up at Madras Mahal right when they were closing i was so sad. But then i requested lady in front who is sweetest person to let me order so she did. I ordered my Fa v RAVA MASALA DOSA and i told excactly how i wanted to be cooked. In no time i received my dosa and OMG this was the most phenomenal dosa i had ever ate. This was beyond my expectation, it was golden crispy yumi DOSA. This has became my newly fav restaurant in Murry Hill. Staff is very friendly and doesnt get annoyed unlike other place around there i rather not mention names. I left with a big smile :) and full tummy.

Fantastic Indian food, and kosher too
I love this place and make a point to go there on every visit to NYC. Always leave with a smile on my face, a full tummy, and several bags to take home. My only regret is that they don't deliver to Boston.

Good
On Lex. between 27 & 28th Street there's about 4 veggie indian places and all are good, as is this one. The food is good and the portions are good too. The selection is big, the place is nice, etc. They need vegan desserts however.
