Pleasant Indian Restaurant
It was the best Indian meal I have eaten in NYC, originally I am from Texas married to an Indian and recently moved to NYC. My husband and I invited to this lovely place that he heard from his pals at work. We were about 25 people and menu was fixed from the beginning so we can get straight to fun and enjoy our time with friends. For appitizer we had Mini Masala dosai, Kachori, Paneer Pakora and more veg pakors and main course Palak paneer , chana Masala, undhiyun, Pulav rice, parathas, and few more items * Can not remember the names. Everyone had great time at Madras Mahal and I am so thankful to the manager lady who put together amazing menu for our guest, service was excellent and Food quality was excellent as well. Madras Mahal is in our favorite list.

Not that bad at all
After looking at over a dozen other Indian eateries in the area, we settled on this one. It was fine. Vegetable biryani ($8.95) was decent, bit too soggy for my tastes and could have been tad more spicy, but still good and ample portion. A plain dosai (just onion & potato) was very good ($7.95). Large, crispy and light. 3 condiments added spice to the serving. Service was good. Decor was dull, but at least no piped Indian music. Reasonably priced and pretty good.

Don't waste your dinner plans
The waiters at this restaurant took 15 minutes just to come to the table. Our initial waiter (we had 3) knew nothing about the menu and when we asked questions would just point to food descriptions. We ordered 4 soups but for some reason one came out 15 minutes before the others. The other 3 soups were tasteless but the waiter refused to acknowledge our opinion and bring another option. Out of 5 dishes we ordered, 3 were pretty good, the restaurant's only redeeming factor. At the end, rather than apologize for the lack in service, they just tacked on gratuity to the bill and did not say thank you. I would never go back to this restaurant and neither should you.

poor service not much taste
Our group of 16 had problems from the beginning with service mainly related to timing and delivery. They didn't seem able to serve the whole group in a consistent manor. The waiters never came over and asked how things were and there were a small selection of condiments on the table. I found few tasty items among the appetizers and main entrees I won't be back.

A very delicious Indian food and Kosher
This place is amazing which serves world's best dosa, I have traveled south India for my spiritual trip with a group and this place comes very close to want I was used to having in South of India. Also, I love their weekend buffets, all you can eat very delicous buffet. Overall a great experience and taste that leaves you with coming back for more.

AMAZING FOOD
The dosas are amazing and also beautiful in appearance. So much flavor, so fresh. All the appetizers are authentic and wonderful! You do not go here for ambience or the service, but the food is memorable. The review below is so off and the staff cannot let outside food be eaten inside because of the kosher laws.

kosher laws
i just wanted to respond to the negative review below, about how the manager asked her 4 year old daughter to step outside in the cold to take a bite of pizza. you might not know this, but the kosher laws are very, very strict. if he allows ANY outside food in the place - including a bite of pizza - he could loose his licence! i know how extreme that might sound, but it is true. its a shame you had such a bad experience, but maybe this cultural awareness will help promote understanding.
