    Amazed by prior reviews

My husband turned 45, I got tix to a show, and asked my NYC friend to recommend a pre-show restaurant. This was the one. She's a foodie, so I didn't question and booked the reservation (first sitting Saturday night). Just for fun, I went online to see reviews. I was shocked to see that almost every review (here) was scathing. Considered canceling. But... decided I wanted to see for myself. I am so glad I did! We had excellent service from start to finish. We were seated at a long table that would potentially hold many others, so if this possibility bothers you, say so when you reserve. We didn't care (and no one was seated at our table until the end of our meal). We ordered wine (which was wonderful) and small plates - Summer rolls and Crispy Pigs Head. Holy Moses, the CPH was particularly incredible. We followed it up with large plates - Halibut Pot Pie (Delicious), and Monkfish (equally scrumptious). What I might have loved most of all was the brussels sprouts. Wow. As my friend suggested, we got ourselves a cookie on our way out to eat at intermission. We had a very memorable and outstandingly delicious dinner - made for a great birthday. (:}) Go taste for yourself.

The Beef 7 Ways is one of the most disappointing, overrated, overhyped meals I've ever had. Didn't appreciate eating in a basement for the $$ either. And the wait staff was, in a word, lazy. That said, some of the dishes being served around us seemed and smelled interesting which left us feeling even more disappointed in the Beef. I would give Ma Peche another chance but sure to have someone else pick up the tab. Ma Peche certainly has not earned another dip into my wallet.

Not as good as Downtown locations

Have been a fan of all of David's places for so long now, a friend and I finally had to trek to mid-town and give it a try. I found the service to be OK and friendly - typical of the downtown locations. The wine list is varied with only 1 red under $50, but it was a decent gamay and went well with the steak frites and the amazing brussel sprouts w/ chipotle/anchovy. The frites were the only problem: made of rice--they were leaden with grease and lacked any discernible taste, even with the accompanying sauce. The room itself is also a problem: it is a bit soulless as the decor resembles a bunker/fallout shelter with no windows. Probably won't be coming back.

We were excited to be eating at a David Chang restaurant and after having also eaten at a number of other excellent new york restaurants were expecting this to be on par. However this was not the case whilst the food was good the Atmosphere was totally lacking and the service was non existent the worst we have experienced in new York. Overall would not recommend. David Chang lift your game as it your name that suffers.

    Ok food, poor service

While we found the food good, although overpriced, the overall experience was an unpleasant one due to poor service. Waited very long to be seated, drinks and food took a long time to come by, disinterested service at most. Outright rude when we complained. Most of the staff seems to be young kids who really don't know how to be professional waiters (but are low on personal charm to make you forget that) and management seems to have no interest in fixing this. At this prices, it's unacceptable. Too bad because I love Chang's other restaurants in the Village. Definitely not worth it.

    Not recommended

David Chang, I love your restaurants and food and frequent them often. I happily write reviews of the various dishes, but it's really not worth my time here. I went to Ma Peche for an anniversary dinner last night, excited to try another offering from you, and was stunned that you're selling this food to people. Every dish was severely lacking in flavor, balance, interest of any sort - to the point that they were disappointing. In fact, the octopus salad, steak frites, and trout were so actually unappetizing that by the end I was literally taking huge bites to make the meal end more quickly. This dinner last night was easily the poorest meal my husband I and I have ever paid for.

    A sorry disappointment

Took a friend for her birthday lunch, expecting wonderful things from all I had heard. The first thing that happened, seemed minor at the time, we moved to a quieter table upstairs, after seeing the menu downstairs. When I asked the wait person about the Sake, he proceeded to tell me that all of the Sake was on the food menu. I knew this wasn't the case, since I had just seen it downstairs. This discussion went on for an inordinate amount of time - for goodness sake, just bring the menu! The more important issue is that the lamb shank was inedible. I could not cut it with the knife. The waiter apologized (sort of) and walked away. Only when someone else passed by and asked how lunch was and I explained, did he ask if he could bring something else or, at the very least, he would take the lamb off the bill. I thought the rest of the food was fine - but not sure what all the hype is about. I wanted to like this place.
