i work in the area and always order from here on rainy days. the food is great, from my experience it is the best chinese delivery i've had in manhattan. it might be a bit pricey but the serving size makes up for it. delivery time is speedy too. cannot say anything about the atmosphere as i have never ate inside.

Our Place is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants and definitely my favorite place in the neighborhood. All ingredients are fresh and top quality including meat, chicken, and fish, which is surprising hard to find at most Chinese restaurants in this city. I usually order delivery or take out and my food is ready in minutes. Dining in is a nice experience as the waiters will plate the dishes table-side and I am a sucker for table-side presentation. My favorite dishes are the pork with yellow leek, general ching's chicken (not general chows), chicken soong, spareribs, and amazing chicken. Egg rolls and soup are great too.

I've been ordering from here for years and the last two times we have ordered the food has been subpar - once, the dish was drowning in oil, and the second time it just wasnt that good. I hope they realize soon because their food used to be great.

Maybe they have better dishes but... Shumei was dry and sticky but the worst offense for me was the crispy duck... a fairly traditional dish... was not a crispy skin duck, it was bonless duck dipped in egg and flour and deep fried... not cute at ALL. and VERY DRY. Had to buy lunch twice...totally bummed.

I have actually only eaten at Our Place twice but have ordered in countless times. The food is excellent and the delivery is super fast (and the order is Always correct). I've ordered several different dishes and loved them all. Overall this will be my Chinese place for as long as I live on the UES.

There are some excellent regional chinese restaurants in the city (sichuan, cantonese, Shanghainese, etc), and I have seen people complain in the reviews that they didn't like (insert random Chinese-American dish here). It says more about the person than the restaurant if the sesame chicken or the dumplings at a Sichuan place are lacking, or if the chicken with garlic sauce at a Cantonese joint isn't any good. But for these uneducated souls, I present to you Our Place. Our place has a Shanghainese bent, and you can get some very good Shanghainese stuff here. However, there are no better places in the city (I think the food is on par with Shun Lee) to get absolutely superb renderings of the kinds of things that normally appear on basic Chinese take-out restaurants. It's a great business model: do the regional stuff well, but also be superlative at the dishes that most of the customers (it's in midtown) are going to be familiar with. So get your chicken with garlic sauce. Revel in hunan-style anything. Go for the grand marnier shrimp. Bring on the deep fried. The meat quality is superlative, and the sauces frequently are bold, robust and slightly sweet -- perfect for the Americanized taste. Nice bonuses: the service is really good and the place is clean and attractive inside. Chinese people might grouse that it's not authentic enough and too high-priced than what they're used to, but that's not really the point, in my opinion. The point is that here is a place where you can order something you know well, and can count on getting a great version of it. And if you want to experiment with something more exotic, they've got that too.
