    service is really getting poor

must agree with the previous reviews. pizzas are great but service is sub par at best. if you happen to know the owner, that's great, you'll get a table within 10 min even if the place is crowed (and he seems to know half of the city), o/w you're up for a long wait, bad service, etc. really annoying. a couple of year ago this place was very welcoming. too bad.

    subpar takeout

I've eaten from this place before and it was delicious. So today my friends and I ordered pizza and the stuffed mozzarella appetizer. When it showed up, the $10 appetizer is half the size of my fist, and they gave us the wrong pizza! When we called the restaurant to alert them, they treated us as if it were our fault, and were completely unapologetic about the mix-up. Great pizza, too bad the service is so poor!

Their pasta is not good and watch out on those wine prices. The wines there are normally about $10-20 bucks than at other restaurants for each bottle.

    not good

this pizza was excessively soggy, the cheese had absolutely no flavor (and just contributed more to the sogginess) and you can't even use credit card for delivery. oh, and did i mention it is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. the bill was $50 for a large pizza, soup and tiramasu. are you kidding? never again.

I've been here four times in the last month and can't imagine ever getting sick of the place. I've no idea what the pasta / salad / soup etc taste like because I would never waste an opportunity to eat the pizza - it's the best I've ever had. Some of the reviews written a couple of years ago suggest that the place has gone downhill since it originally opened. I'm glad I never knew Luzzo's in its "heyday", as I'd probably be mugging old ladies to fund my habit. To the people who seem to have had a genuinely bad experience, please give this place another try, it's totally worth it. To the lady that didn't get any bread, you're at a pizza restaurant - get a grip. And finally, to anonymous who found this place to be "dissappointing" (sic) on 11/16. The prices were lower than you expected and that's a bad thing? Use the money you saved on some spelling lessons.

11 years in New York and I've walked by this place hundreds maybe thousands of times and have never gone in until a friend brought me last night. It's the best of New York and the best of the East Village. I love this place: amazing food, East Village charm for days, Italian waitstaff, and the glasses of wine cost a reasonable $7-9/each and they fill it up to the rim, unlike the other places these days that charge more and you're lucky if you get half a glass. Love it. Can't wait to go back.

If they didn't take your credit card the machine was broken. I've paid with my card many times. and are you complaining because the prices arent as high as you thought they were? the pizza is wonderful, the atmosphere is great. service can be abrupt but i think it's part of the charm. because overall they're very friendly just very busy!
