Reviews completely misleading
I went here based on the good reviews on this site. It was some the of the most tasteless Mexican food I have ever eaten. It took about 30 minutes or longer for our food to come out. I would not recommend this to anyone! I used to live in Santa Fe where the Mexican food is so fresh and flavorful, this shouldn't even be called Mexican.

Super Chicken Quesadilla!!!
I can't speak for the service, as I've always ordered takeout. But their super chicken quesadilla, which is the only thing that I have ever ordered, is the best quesadilla that I've ever had. I am changing jobs & will miss ordering this on our desiganted "Mexican food Fridays."

Losts its touch
How can you call this place authentic Mexican when they serve Tostitos and flavorless, overchilled guacamole right off the bat? Lupe's used to be decent but on recent visits now has a tired feel to it. And it definitely needs a complete cleaning! The staff was nice and accomodating once you got their attention. Fish tacos were blah and dry. Enchiladas mole were better mole sauce was not bad actually. Most dishes are totally uninspired. What happened? Could not face a disappointing dessert so we didn't stick around. Not going back.

Awesome food
The food is amazing, not traditional Mexican but this is NYC. I have been eating here for over 10 years. The food is very fresh and made with quality ingredients. It's not a fancy place, but the vibe is very suiting for this off the beaten SoHo path cheap eats. It is a perfect place to meet friends for a very casual dinner.

Great delivery
I order from here about once a month, very good burritos and some good appetizers. Not your typical mexican delivery place in NY, some good unique dishes. I've eaten in the restaurant before but wouldn't recommend it, kind of a dive and pretty ambivalent service. Delivery is extremely quick and the price is great.

Authentic Yes, Rest Fits Price - Low
Went to Lupe's based on reviews here, as there were many Mexican restaurants to choose from. Be warned that it is very much a dive. Don't go expecting atmosphere beyond a hole in the wall feel (e.g. plywood table). Authentic it is. Don't expect fajitas or hamburger filled tacos with cheddar cheese. Do expect a taste that is not your typical tex-mex mix. If tex-mex is what you are used to (ala chains such as Don Pablo's, Taco Bell, etc.), then be prepared for an exploration of Mexican food as it probably would be made in the homeland. That said, we did not find it satisfying enough to make up for the atmosphere and low service provided. Lastly, we had to wave the waiter over for nearly every need we had, including taking our orders. To their credit, they did do a special request for one of our guests. Bottom Line: Go for an experience/taste a little different with low expectations on atmosphere and service, and you will be very happy relative to the price you paid.
