Love it, and kid friendly!
Food is great, dirt cheap. The aguas frescas juices are always great. The atmosphere is not great, but it's not a buzzkill either. A definite downtown vibe and always has a nice buzz to it. But always delicious, always friendly, and I'm always glad I went there.

Truly one of the best.
I have been eating at Lupe's regularly for years, and I love it! The staff is awesome, so friendly and accommodating. The food is excellent and incredibly consistent, and the atmosphere is happy and fun. I've come alone and come with friends, always felt welcome. Oh...the Margaritas and Pineapple Mojitos are really good - everything fresh fruit!

Really enjoyed Lupe's
Four of us ate here yesterday and loved it. We thought the starter salsa and chips were delicious--great, tasty salsa and nice, salty chips that were good on their own. Two of us had quesadillas, one had a burrito, and one had the stew and we all really liked everything we got--perhaps a little bland, but no other complaints! My friends all got margaritas and really liked them and we split a peanut butter cookie for dessert which was delicious. And the prices are very fair. Our server was in a bad mood but the service was great--we got everything quickly and we were checked on multiple times to see if we needed anything else. LOVE THIS PLACE--will definitely go back!

This is New York, not the Southwest
If you're going to Lupe's and only compare it to the Mexican food of the southwest, you're really wasting your time. Yeah, we New Yorkers get it - our Mexican food will never be as "authentic" as yours. If you feel so strongly about this fact, then when you visit the city, avoid it (just like we avoid pizza or bagels when visiting your region). I also agree that thetortilla chips are a major and tasteless downer. However everything else I've had at Lupe's is delicious, flavorful and plentiful. The burritos are the best in my opinion, but my friends have sworn by the tacos de carnitas. Definitely get a margarita and if you're looking for something sweet, the plantains are very yummy. I have never waited more than 20 minutes for my food after ordering - even when the restaurant is at it's most crowded. My biggest peeve is the cash-only policy, but I love everything else about Lupe's!

Subpar Experience
The food is super bland- no flavor- chips were greasy and too salty and service was awful!

Reviews completely misleading
I went here based on the good reviews on this site. It was some the of the most tasteless Mexican food I have ever eaten. It took about 30 minutes or longer for our food to come out. I would not recommend this to anyone! I used to live in Santa Fe where the Mexican food is so fresh and flavorful, this shouldn't even be called Mexican.

Super Chicken Quesadilla!!!
I can't speak for the service, as I've always ordered takeout. But their super chicken quesadilla, which is the only thing that I have ever ordered, is the best quesadilla that I've ever had. I am changing jobs & will miss ordering this on our desiganted "Mexican food Fridays."
