    Not good anymore

I went back last night after a coule of years. The pollo diablos was unappetizing and sitting on a chicken over crostini that was not mentioned on the menu. Not my favorite to begin with. It was horrendous. The pasta amatriciana was a 5 out of 10, nice seasoning but huge chunks of unremdered fat. Where do these guys learn to cook and who is overseeing this kitchen? The place is very downhill and their insane policy of not seating your entire party while creating a logjam in front of the restaurant does not work. There are better restaurants to ever warrant going back.

    The good and the mediocre

I thought that the meal had its ups and downs. Firstly, Ricotta Gnocchi with sausage & fennel. - The gnocchi were well made (pillowy) and tasted good however I was expecting some chunks of sausage in the sauce, but either it was too light on meat or ground too finely into the sauce to provide any texture. They could have used more sauce on it also. Second, Bavette Cacio & Pepe Tasty, but truthfully I expect a little more than pepper and olive oil in some pasta. I know that there is something to be said about keeping it simple, but this felt a bit too easy. Thirdly, Heritage Pork Chop with braised cabbage & roasted squash - The braised cabbage and roasted squash tasted good. But the Heritage Pork Chop looked a bit undercook to me and I was not overly impressed with the portion size. Also, there was absolutely no sauce on the plate which left the dish a bit one note. Where's the sauce? Lastly, the Saltimbocca. I am a slave to saltimbocca. I thought that the veal was pounded very thin and tender and that they gave an adequate sized portion. The proscuitto looked like it had been seared onto the veal. Ncie presentation. This dish worked for me even though it could have benefitted from some kind of sauce on the plate.

    Saturday evening

We went in earlier and told the hostess we would like a table in an hour. She said no problem. When we returned she said it would be about an hour and half to 2 hour wait. She did not even apologize..she kept acting so unprofessional. There a tons of restaurants in NYC with better food and service so don't waste your time!

    Overrated

Was really excited to get reservations at Lupa. When we arrived we were seated in the back room by the kitchen which as we all know is the worst spot in the house. My friend and I ordered the escarole salad which was lovely. My friend ordered Bavette Cacio and Pepe which she said was just OK. I ordered Linguine with Crab, Fennel and Chiles. I was extremely disappointed. There was very little crab and no fennel or chiles in the dish. We ordered the tartufo for dessert and it was delicious as was the wine. Throughout dinner we felt like we were being rushed by the wait staff. Overall we were not impressed.

    Not their best effort

Went for my birthday and thought the food was unexciting. The wine menu however was out of sight although the extensive selection was more drive for show than anything. The salad was uninspiring, the striped bass was not very tasty. The pasta with shrimp and pesto sauce was excellent. Again, for dessert the focus was on alchohol. The desserts were uninspiring.

    Go for variety

The small plates are great. A friend of mine who was visiting from Europe, however, was not particularly impressed with the bean soup.

    Excellent food

We went there only once so far - but will definitely comeback. The food is excellent. The place does get a little too busy for us and even with reservation you might have to wait to be seated. Dont skip the first course as the dinner portions (at least pastas) are pretty small. But everything we tried between 4 people was truly excellent!! Service was average which considering how busy they were was actually really good.
