However I go back every once in a while to have a hot slice of Luigi's pizza. The cheese is gooey and the crust is crunchy in the most perfect way. It is one of the best slices in the city.

I've been eating at both Luigis and 3 Luigis, but have yet to experience the moments of transcendence that have been popularly circulating. I find the pizza here to be decent, but nothing extra special. I don't think it warrants the "Best in Pizza in Brooklyn" badge touted by many students here at Pratt. The people who make the pizza are great, and it's great eating there after a grueling day in studio, but as a spot on the culinary scale of a gourmand, this is not.

I live just around the corner from Luigi's and get a slice on my way home every so often. It is always superb. ALWAYS! Fresh, hot, quick, and sooo yummy!

What's more Brooklyn than a big hot slice of pizza? I have eaten at many pizza places in the borough and I have found that Luigi's probably has the best slice. It's a no-frills, nothing-but-pizza pizza shop. This place is about the FOOD- and it is soooo good! The sauce is an exquisite balance of sweet and savory, and the cheese is always perfectly golden brown and NEVER skimpy. There are usually several variations of pie by the slice in the sidewalk counter window- including a veggie-only, pepperoni, sausage and pepper, and fantastic chewy thick-crusted sicilian (i would also recommend the 'white' sauce-less variety as well!). You can also order whole pies, but I would call ahead as making the perfect pie takes a little time. A few unusual aspects of the shop- First: there is no place to sit- the shop has literally space for about 6 people including the bakers! Sometimes there are patio chairs out on the sidewalk on nicer days, but this is not an "eat-in" establishment. Second: there is basically nothing on the menu but pizza- no subs, no sandwiches, no calzones- so look elsewhere if you seek such culinary delectables. Lastly: there is NO DELIVERY! While this seems kind of ridiculous in this day and age- upon reflection, it's probably the best thing for them and for the customer. A delivery guy would mean added cost to the product, so the perfect 2.00 slice of cheese would definitely go up; also, using a delivery guy means that you would end up with pizza that sat on some dudes bicycle handles and cooled off- resulting in a sub-par eating experience. This pizza comes right out of the oven and into your mouth! On a personal note, I am a firm believer in the concept of "If you want it- come get it", and Luigi's is no different. If you want Brooklyn's BEST slice of pizza- you gotta get off yer duff and come down here and get it- it's not gonna come to you!
