...this place is the real deal. the pizza is fantastic, so fresh, amazing char on the crust. mmmm. and the calzones are awesome too. get the sauce on the side. it may sound strange, but you'll want it when you get down to the crust part where the cheese ends. so good. go right now.

I must confess that I am a big big fan of Grimaldi's, John's (Bleecker Street) and the fresh mozzarella pie at My Little Pizzaria on Court Street. Lucali's is a very close second, but did not convert me. The pizza has a terrific (A+) crust, nice sauce and most, chewy cheese. Too oily, however, for my taste and way salty. It is, however, a really good pizza. The calzone, according to my old man, is "extraordinary." Me, well I am not a calzone girl. The crust, however, like the pizza, is supreme. Warning: if they ask you whether you want sauce for your calzone, think about it. It costs $2.00 a they dont warn you. Cork fee $4.00. Pizza $21, Calzone $10. So, dinner for two with BYOB came out to $52, with tip. Not cheap at all.

We have been going to Lucali since last year and absolutely adore the place. The pizza is better than anything else in Brooklyn - as are the calzones. The atmosphere is romantic and reminds of Italy. The waitresses are all from Brooklyn and so sweet. They always remember us. The pepperoni is perfectly salty and we always get a side of fresh basil to sprinkle over the pie. Grab a bottle of your favorite wine and call right at 6:00 to put in your name. Walk fast and indulge. We are never disappointed. Take your family, take your kids, take out of town guests!

This is EXCELLENT pizza. Certainly up there with Grimaldi's, Totonno's etc. Worth the long wait. If you can plan ahead, go and put your name in and go get a drink somewhere. The wait is long and well worth it.
