Great for LUNCH in Midtown
Great place for lunch if you're in the midotwn area. Not the same old day in and day out. Their ravioli is amazing & great value for Soup and half sandwich or to stop and get desert. It's a good place over all. My whole office eats here 3 times a week

Try the Turkey Club!
Fantastic food, a little pricey to make your regular lunch place but definetly one of the best Turkey Club sandwitches I've ever had! The pasta salad that comes with it is also fabulous! Probably the best food around for lunch in the low-50s ave of Americas area. The staff is always friendly, and if you decide to stay and eat (I mostly get take out) your water glass will never be empty.

Poor service
We sat on an outside table on a hot day, the table was dirty, so we had to wipe it. Then they only brought us one glass of water after we had placed our orders. I had a very tasty eggs florentine, but the portion size was small (4 small bits of potato), and the side of bacon and my coffee came after I had finished the eggs. My tip matched their service.

I can't believe it
I couldn't believe my eyes when I read the previous two reviews. As a frequent patron I feared that the friendly people at Lou's had been abducted by a passing UFO and replaced by obnoxious clones! Fortunately a recent visit assured me that the warm welcome and friendly service are still in place. I've been eating at Lou's on a regular basis for years and have always had a good experience. Whether I'm there for a super lunch (LOVE the Tower of Bagel,) a light meal before the theatre or just coffee and a slice of delicious cake while taking a break from the nearby Museum of Modern Art I always get good service and value at Lou's. I've recommended it to lots of people and always get positive feedback. I can't imagine what was going on last fall. I was out of town at the time those reviews were written. I do hope those reviewers will give Lou's another chance. It really is a great place.

Poor Service
On Oct 21, 2007, I set up a 10:30am brunch with friends to meet my mom who was visiting from out of town. None of us had ever been to this restaurant but most of the reviews sounded promising. Upon arrival, we stood in the front to await someone to sit us. I saw a manager running around who kept zipping past us in & out the door trying to bus tables and serve guests. When I realized we'd been standing there a while (about 8 min) and no one had approached to at least ask about our party size, I tried to intercept him. I said "excuse me..." and he spoke over his shoulder "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...I'm getting to you, I'm getting to you." It was snide, rude and like as if he was inconvenienced by me and annoyed I'd done it. Other people in my party noticed too. Finally, he sat us at a table set for four. He threw the menus down and walked away. I followed behind him as he went to clear a table nearby and said "hi, excuse me, what I was trying to tell you earlier is we need a table for six - not four - as I'm expecting others but when I tried to tell you shut me down". And his curt response was, "yes, I did shut you down". He was averting my eyes and went on to say "okay then, you can have this table here just give me a moment." I went back to where we'd first been sat and told the group what he said. When the new table was ready he waved us over. I led the way and he mumbled, "Sorry about that" and walked off. Never saw him again. As for the waitstaff, they seemed like they were either asleep (because they moved sooo slow and it took 15 minutes to get a cup of coffee and hot chocolate for two people) and/or did not understand (I think there were possible language barriers) and we had to make sure they knew what we were ordering. But, yep, never saw that manager again. Our party discussed how some of us had read the same reviews and now figure any of the bad ones must have been about this guy. I wish I had the means to post a video of it now! Other than that, the food was standard. Not bad, not excellent.

a disappointment
i went here for breakfast one sunday expecting a decent meal for a good price based on past reviews. the host was very rude and seemed overly stressed once we arrived, threw down our menus on the table and walked away. i wasnt looking for a spectacular meal but i could have made myself a better omelette. the service was poor and i was tempted to walk out before paying because we had to ask for our check for a good 10 minutes before my friend had to walk up to pay at the counter. i dont like to say negative things about any restaurant as ive been a waitress myself but this was a big disappointment.

Our favorite restaurant!
After looking for a place to eat after a day at MoMA, we didn't expect much from this little cafe. But wow, great service, fantastic food, and a great place to be! Great value for what you get, too. I live on the west coast but my boyfriend lives in NYC, and every time I come out here Lou's is the first place we go to eat (sometimes multiples times in a row). He's brought other visiters from out of town here as well, and they've loved it too. Our favorite dishes are the goat cheese bow tie pasta and a honey-walnut-goat cheese sandwhich that my boyfriend loves. And they make a WONDERFUL banana milkshake, as well!
