Unexpectedly excellent
I've walked by L'oubli many times on the way to my girlfriend's apartment and frequently made a note that I wanted to stop in and try it out. Tonight we did and it was well beyond anything I expected--and quite affordable. All 6 small plates we had ranged from very good to heavenly. The crab avocado salad is impeccable; the macaroni and cheese is delicious, creamy, and complex; the mushroom & cheese crepe is to die for. The quiet, subdued atmosphere was enhanced by Royal Tenenbaums playing silently in the backdrop--one of my all-time faves. The owner is an excellent host. Go; you will be quite pleased that you did!

Best French small plates in NYC!
I absolutely love L'Oubli. The decor is very practical and modest, probably because they spent so much time focusing on the cocktails and bites. Have a great local and craft beer selection too.
