    Yumyum!

I just had to write a review on Lokal. Its strange to see all the so-so reviews because everytime I order from this place, I have a huge party in my mouth. The food here is so delicious, and its not the speediest delivery, but the food is always piping hot and tasty. I've only ordered from here, but I think I will check it out this weekend. 5leaves is always packed, and Lokal isn't, which might deter people away from trying the food here, but you definitely should. (disregard the atmosphere and service rating- as i have only ever had delivery and never proper sit-down service)

    Good Place

I've lived in Greenpoint for 3 years and this place has become a regular order for me. I usually get the veggie panini and rosemary fries, which for 8 bucks is a really good value! I have a pretty good appetite and it always fills me up. The chicken entree is also very good as is the salmon. And mulled wine for 4 dollars!! Margarita pizza is ok (no complaints). Other places serve better humus, but their beat salad is great. On a weekend in the evening there aren't always a lot of people, but that doesn't mean its not a great place. If you want to go to 5 Leaves but the joint is packed, Lokal is a great near by second option.

    Not recommended

We went to Lokal on a Sunday night when there were very few patrons, us and one other couple. Interestingly enough 5 Leaves next door was overflowing and had at least a 30-45 minute wait. Lokal's food was uneven, some warm, some tepid.. the hummus appetizer was stale as was the bread for the table. Worst of all, when the bill came we found 20% had been added to our bill as a "tip" because we had been joined by two friends. When questioned I was told it's the restaurant's policy for a party of 6 or more. I asked if it was stated on the menu and told it was although it must have been pretty small print because I couldn't find it. On top of this our waiter tried to skim some more from our bill by giving us incorrect change. When questioned, he said that they don't deal in small change and rounded up to the next dollar. This place is a rip with mediocre food and worse service! They don't even pretend to care.

    Unexpected surprise

I happened to find this restaurant the other day and my husband an I went there. The food for the price is definitely a positive surprise. The fish I order was just delicious. The price was very reasonable. I will be a repeater.

    rude

my girlfriend and i had been to brunch at lokal before. so as we were riding by we thought, lets stop here and have some lunch. it was pretty empty considering they were playing the world cup. we both ordered juices, my gf ordered a steak sandwich and i ordered a burger. when i got my burger, i noticed the tomato slice was not freshly sliced, it looked dry, like it had been sliced in advance. i pointed this out to my gf and she noticed something else. she pointed out to me that there was a spot of mold on the tomato, not on the skin part but on the slice part which leads me to believe that the tomato had been sliced days in advance. far enough in advance to grow mold on the sliced part of the slice. how long does it take to slice a tomato i thought? so i call over the waiter and nicely pointed this out to him. he says "okay?" and takes away my plate without even a hint of an apology or remorse for this disgusting situation. im thinking okay, ill give him the benefit of the doubt. he returns 5 seconds later with another semi dry, old slice of tomato on top of my burger and walks away without a word. i am now sitting there in disbelief at the lack of concern for me, like i was bothering him. i then walk over to him and say, its kind of gross, still thinking maybe he would offer me a new burger and that he was just embarrassed or something and wasnt sure what to do. he says to me, in a kind of annoyed voice. "well, what do you want ME to do?" this is the first time i have ever walked out of a restaurant or wrote a bad review for that matter. this stupid, simple tomato incident can only lead me to believe that this restaurant doesn't care to use fresh ingredients or care to take care of their customer. i will never step foot inside this restaurant again. i was fuming yesterday.

    Neighborhood Go-to Restaurant

This is one of my top neighborhood go-to restaurants. I've taken friends and family here and we've all been pleased with the food and service. I order in sometimes too and I almost always order the Veggie Panini and it comes with fries that are tossed in Rosemary....mmm so good! I def recommend it!!

    Fantastic Service

By far my favorite restaurant in the area--in addition to consistently excellent food, the wait staff is totally fantastic (by any standard, not just relative to Williamsburg). They're friendly without being cloying and attentive without hovering, absolutely spot on (they're also all quite good-looking, which is rather a plus). I'm a huge fan of the steak salad with fried artichokes and parmesan--it's a quite generous appetizer and more than enough for a light dinner. Oh, and they let you smoke at the outdoor tables. They will always have my custom and I strongly suggest you give them yours!
