phenomenal food, great atmosphere, solid service

Loconda Verde is hands down one of the best restaurants in NYC. The food is out of this world. Everything was delicious but the steak tartar appetizer and the duck entree were real standouts. The service was great, attentive but not overbearing. Lively and fun vibe.

    Vibe, Unfortunately, Very Rude Service

Loved the food and atmosphere, but the staff was quite rude, especially the staff who answered the phones. Just gives an overall bad feel to the restaurant. Unfortunate.

    Agree That Service is Slipping

I've been enjoying Locanda Verde since they opened. Last night I brought a few out of town colleagues to dinner. They made us wait until the 5th person joined and there was no where to stand (it was packed). Finally got to the bar and had a very surly bartender - everyone I was with noticed the poor attitude. Then I waited 10 minutes after the fifth person arrived to be seated. And the hostess asked me three times as I was waiting at the podium if I'd been helped - I said you asked me that 2 minutes ago..... Waiter was friendly but not very attentive or even descriptive of the food. We had to figure out the menu on our own. Luckily I know the menu and helped by colleagues. Top it all off, we tried to split the bill five ways and the waiter said "sorry, 4 credit cards is the limit." Maybe it's because Carmellini is spending more time at The Dutch, maybe it's because Locanda has gotten too popular. But I have to say I was very disappointed...

Food exquisite, service a fraction of the old days

Andrew Carmellini is one of the highest rated chefs in town and for good reason. Presentation is careful but not fussy, ingredients are excellent, and simply prepared so as to showcase (and not overwhelm) their flavors. Every dish I've ever had here has been at the very least delicious and often exquisite. Highly recommended! Service, however, has suffered of late. It used to be tight. These days, the bar is so sloppy I feel like I'm at a dive bar in the East Village. Bartenders are distracted and so insecure they feel the need to point out everything they're doing wrong (duh, I know what you did wrong - no need to keep bringing it up, just get your act together and make things right!) Not a big deal if you make my drink served on the rocks instead of up as I requested - easy fix - just don't keep saying "wow I'm really ruining your night." Not a big deal if my friend's dish comes out before mine, I can happily wait - just don't keep saying "the kitchen usually brings that dish out so much faster - you must hate me right now." Maybe because we were two gals out on the town, bartender felt the need to impress us, but oh my god it was annoying to the point of insanity. Still a fabulous restaurant with fabulous food. Just don't forget that service counts too...

    Superb breads

The focaccia to start set the pace for a lovely dining experience. Ordered the grilled bread with ricotta which was so yummy I could have made a meal out of this and the focaccia. The scallops were a little tough, but the pasta dishes quite good. Asparagus salad was best I have had. Don't know if I would return as it was very noisy. Waitstaff very well trained.
