    This place should be closed

The only reason you go here is because there is nothing else in the neighborhood. It would be a big mistake! They use the lowest grade food that money can buy. The service is horrendous. It takes forever for you to get your food. Even if you order a burger at the counter, you could wait 20-30 minutes for it. The cooks seem like they never went to cooking school. The sandwiches always falls apart. The owner doesn't care about his patrons just making a buck off of desperate artists and her husband who draws his chalk pictures which are very nice.

    Okay food - poor service

If it weren't for the fact that they are so few other restaurants in that specific area, Life Cafe would be out of business. The food is decent, service is not - it's like a marching line of incompetents, one after another forgetting to bring your side of fries, another round of beers, etc. Though, the swiss, avocado and bacon on wheat is delicious.

    Got a new complaint....

Your staff should play music for people eating, not for people working. It was a discotheque while I was trying to eat.

    Good and Bad

At first I thought this place was a really great find. It does probably have some of the best food out of any restaurant in the neighborhood. The problem, however, I realized is that it is such a pain to get food from them whether by delivery or if you go in person. The first time I ordered delivery it took them over two hours to bring my food when they said it would come in 45 mins. Subsequent times always took at least more than an hour even in completely off peak times. I went there once and it took our food 45 mins from when we ordered it. I think they must be understaffed or something. I would consider putting up with this more if I thought that any of their meals were fullsized but they usually leave you still hungry afterwards. Cool vibe though in the place itself and I like the type of food they have there a lot.

    Bi-weekly Regular

My sister & I have lived in Bushwick for about 5 months now and we go to Life at least once a week, get delivery maybe once or twice and 99% of the time it's great food, great bargain. She's a carnivore, but I'm a vegetarian and I love the eggless rancheros and bloody marys (every weekend!) and I had the meatloaf special the other night-- TO DIE FOR! The service is always minimal but attentive and always laidback and fun. I love this place.. it's the one thing my sister will miss upon leaving NYC.

    Good food in Bushwick

Life Cafe 983 is a pioneer; they were the first restaurant to open on Flushing Avenue in the Bushwick area several years ago, and they were desperately needed. I eat at life regularly, and have for years. The food is consistently good, with a variety of different types of food on the menu. They have a vegan special everyday, and lots of vegan and vegetarian items on the menu that are very good. The vegan burrito is great, as is the Life Salad. They have an extensive drink menu, also, with both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. They also have a weekend brunch that is great, again, with lots of vegan options. The service is generally good, but every now and again it's slow and/or lackluster. The atmosphere is that of a slightly upscale bar- dark, usually noisy and crowded with music playing. Id recommend going to Life; it is a great addition to the Bushwick, has good food and is open late.
