Best Sud American food
I live in upper east side for 4 years, and i love Libertador. The food is good, the people work there is very friendly, they always make sure you feel good and everything is on time, always busy is the good thing. They have full bar-- best sangria, mojitos and caipirinias. I always bring my friends there because i m sure they will love to and we always come back!

Very displeased with my experience
Ordered steak which came out very dry. The portions were disappointingly tiny and overpriced. Even more, the staff were very rude and non-accommodating.

So, so good.
These disappointed people are crazy. This place is excellent, and I have complaints about most places I visit. I've been to Libertador twice and between my husband and my orders, I have tried several appetizers and cocktails, four entrees, and two desserts. I have not been disappointed by anything, and was super, super impressed with my medium rare steak despite the risk I always feel I'm taking when I order steak "out." The crepes, both in main courses and for dessert, are delicate and unique, the chimichurri is top notch, and the cocktails (pricey but not for the neighborhood at around $10) are interesting, fun, and not short on the pour. I will continue to visit and would recommend the place to anyone!

Disappointed
Food was just adequate. ordered steak for 2 -we had to SHARE a tiny bowl of salad and some fries. After dinner 3 of us ordered coffee which came in small cups not filled more than halfway.Waitress came back to ask if we wanted more coffee and we said,"yes". When we got the bill we were shocked to find out that we were charged for 2 cups each. As a NYC native this was a first. We complained and were told ,"this is our policy'.

Disappointing
I expected much better. After passing this restaurant numerous times and seeing how busy it was, I wrongly assumed it must be terrific. I had the half chicken and it was a salty, miniscule portion. My wife had what was supposed to be a 10 oz. Salmon, but was served something much smaller. Very loud, and the small drinks were overpriced.

Disappointing ingredients
We ate here last night and the service was lovely. The staff were pleasant and helpful if occasionally inattentive. The atmosphere was lovely as we sat outside on a fine fall evening. Unfortunately, the food was poor. We had the Avocado and Mozzarella salad to start. The vinaigrette dressing was fine as was the avocado. The mozzarella was as hard as a rock - chilled to tastelessness. The tomato tasted like those waxy imports one gets in the winter. That's really surprising in New York mid-September when you can still get Jersey and Long Island tomatoes that taste much better. We each had a rare steak - big error. My wife couldn't eat hers. I only got through mine by manfully sawing at it. If you are going to serve tough, flavorless meat you'd better make sure you put out extremely sharp knives. We had ordered simple food that depends on the quality of the ingredients and the restaurant was let down by their bad purchasing decisions. Perhaps the cooks are unusually skilled on dishes that hide the poor quality of the building blocks. We were disappointed in a restaurant we were poised to like. It's a shame that the pleasant atmosphere and waitstaff were undermined by the poor food. We won't be back.

Lucky to have it on my corner
I live on the block and have been to Libertador at least a dozen times with 5-6 different people. I am not a steak eater, but their meat is delicious. I havent had a single thing off the menu that wasnt great and I think the steak is very well priced, empanadas are amazing, blood sausage is delightful, and what is even more surprising--all their desserts are amazingly tasty. Everyone has loved it and a few of my friends developed the same addiction as I have. Service can sometimes be a little slow, but they make everything fresh and the waiters compensate with their graciousness, friendliness and willingness to make recommendations and accommodations. Its a great restaurant and bar with outdoors seating that is always bustling and makes you want to come in and partake in the fun. I love love Libertador!
