Desertion
I have enjoyed L'Express for many years, but honestly, since they dropped my favorite dessert from their menu, I don't go as often, so I am making a public appeal. Please bring back my favorite dessert, Le Petit Chocolat Noir (spelling). L'Express has other good desserts, but once you've had the "Noir," it's difficult to settle for something else.

C'est parfait!
Great little French bistro. The service was friendly and professional. Food was great with large portions. Highly recommend the omelette and the merguez sausage sandwich. We would have tried some dessert but we were too full! C'est un petit Paris à New York.

Good FO soup but...
The first time we came her ewas for brunch, our server was awesome she knew everything and recommended good stuff. The second time we went for dinner bc I was craving French Onion soup- it wasn't has burning hot as D'alsace usually serves it- but it was pretty damn good. The steak frites, good and the Monsuer croque (sp?) was so goooood! Oh and the caesar salad was pretty good too. The last time we went, we decided to go just for dessert- when we got there they were about 6 table wide open and looked like servers were just standing around so we were glad we weren't going to have to wait. So we told the hostess that we were just eating dessert and she said "well, you might not be able to sit" meanwhile, there are open tables! It was slow! So she went to "ask the manager" and he said yes so they sat us at a 6 top (mmhmm) and our waiter seamed pissed that we were just ordering dessert, as if we were taking up his tables or something... Dude, he had 3 empty tables! Dessert was pretty lame too...

Butter and Candlelight
The escargot comes piping hot and ready to dunk your bread in! The tartare is delectable, with just the right proportion of capers to perfectly set off the flavors in the steak. My best friend's girlfriend swears by the lamb burger. Maybe I've just been lucky in picking the right things to order, but of the many times over the past two years that I've been to this favorite, I have always been happy. As for the service: it's at least as good or better as any other restaurant in the same price range. The wait staff do their thing; I've never had a complaint. A couple of the servers are outstanding, notably fast and exceptionally attentive (and quite entertaining given the opportunity). If you're looking for a candlelit, restaurant with a steady hum of conversation where you can spark off your own with delight, then L'Express is for you. It's intimate, but with an excited sensuality built in.

keep walking
It’a shame places like this even exist. Came here on Valentine’s Day in search of French fare at a reasonable price but left disappointed. One thing was clear from start to finish-the lack of passion for quality and service on behalf of the owner. The food was bland and the service, if you can call it that, was not much better. More specifically, out waiter was inattentive and aloof. The French onion soup had a gob of chewy cheese haphazardly lobbed in it, the goat cheese salad was run of the mill and our steaks were chewy and tough. The food was by no means awful, but it was uninspired and lacking in authenticity. Many of the reviews here seem to be complimentary on the basis of L’Express being a 24/7 establishment, so if that’s what you’re looking for, it may suit your needs. However, for a nice dinner out, you can do much better for a lot less. I continue to find it amazing that restaurants of this caliber can keep their doors open in a city such as New York, where there are ample alternatives. I will come here again.
