One of my favorite restaurants to visit. The fries are incredible, but many of the other offerings are great as well. Good list of primarily French wines...which is what I would expect from a French Bistro (not sure what some other reviewers were expecting). Always fun to enjoy with a small group.

Good food in small portions... moderately priced. Typical bistro atmosphere with people close enough to eavesdrop your conversation. My waiter was strangely missing most of the time except when he needed my table. not sure if I'm going back there. OK wine list but almost all of it is French with limited selection of domestic wines.

Les Halles was overall disappointing. While the atmosphere was cozy, the service was pretentious and the food was mediocre. It was definitely not worth the money. My friends and I will not be returning to dine here again.

The hostess forgot to seat us, even though we had a reservation, and took several groups ahead of us. Once we asked her how much longer it would be, our table was suddenly available. The waiter ignored us, taking our wine bottle away without asking whether we wanted another, then disappearing after I asked for the check. We had to repeatedly flag him down or ask a busboy to fetch him as he would glide by, make eye contact for a brief millisecond, then break it just as I was opening my mouth to ask him for something. The busboy took an empty wine glass from the table even though we were mid-meal and told him that we were ordering more wine. That was the service. The food was over-cooked and over-seasoned. Both the lamb and the duck were tough, and the brie appetizer was so smothered with peppercorns I couldn't taste anything else. The pomegranate sauce was overwhelming and cloying. The music was too loud and the lights were too low. We won't be going back.

After rave review, I was curious how this place would compare to my other french favorites... sadly, it failed miserably. The service was negligent, slow and uncaring. The food was extremely disappointing, with the only saving grace being the fries... and frankly, I don't see paying $60/head for excellent fries as a good night. We started with a salad to share - it was meant to have blue cheese in it... we eventually found a tiny piece amongst all the greens, enough for one little bite. When we asked if we could have a bit more so that we could all try it, we were told it would cost extra. For mains we had the côte de beouf... I've had this before at Balthazars and it was melt-in-your-mouth-to-die-for... this was the worst piece of meat I've ever had to deal with... the energy and effort it took just to cut it up made the whole experience exhausting and the taste wasn't worth the effort. We asked for medium-rare, but much closer to medium as we had one diner who wasn't into rare (which the waiter knew) and it came out very rare. I would never, ever, ever go back.

We had a diverse group for a Saturday Brunch/Lunch and the menu was varied enough so that even the least adventurous eaters found more than a few choices. Service was fine and the tab was reasonable. No complaints at all and we will likely return.

Outstanding skirt steak, wonderful service. A great find in New York City.
