Not bad, but I don't see the big deal.
I live practically across the street from the place and have been many times. As far as good local Italian goes then i can't argue this place is good, but in a city like new york with some amazing italian food... well, let's just say that i wouldn't travel across town for this spot. The service tends to be mediocre, even though i have never been in when it was more than half full and the decor certainly leaves something to be desired but otherwise it really is a nice place. Like i said, good if you live close by, but if not, opt for something else.

Excellent italian food
le zie never seems to fail me. i have tried several of the dishes on the menu as well as the specials and they are always delicious and impeccably prepared. i have been to quite a few italian places in the city and i am SO LUCKY this one is so near my apt. their goat cheese appetizer is DELICIOUS and only six bucks! the entrees are all delicious. everyone i bring there falls inlove with the place. the service is great and everything is decently priced. the back room is definately better for romantic dinners as its smaller and quieter. the front room is always bustling and a little tight on the seating. there is also a small bar/lounge room you can wait at ... they do not take resverations for parties under six but usually you are seated within 15 minutes of arriving. i love this place. try it, you wont be disappointed.

Excellent Italian Cuisine
The Cicchetti appetizer is excellent and their marinara sauce is superb. Their spaghetti is really great as is the bread. Great place for reasonable price.

Best Italian I've had
This place has absolutely the most amazing pasta I've ever eaten. If someone in your party doesn't order the Pici, you've missed out! Also, the Ceviche appetizer is fantastic and fish baked in sea salt (special) was one of the best dishes I've had anywhere. My wife and I have been here several times. Once, she ordered the much-acclaimed spaghetti and meatballs. It was good, but not worth coming back for, so she went back to Pici and orders it every time we go there.

Where did you guys eat?!
I decided to take a friend here after reading fantastic reviews here and on NYMetro. The service was poor...the server was highly unfocused and never around. We got better wait service from the water boys who we had to flag down every 5 mins for water, bread because our server was nowhere to be found! The food was decent enough -- after prompting the server to give us the specials (!) I ordered the chicken liver pate for an opener and potato gnocchi for main. The pate tasted very braunschweiger-ish and came in three heaping scoops with only four tiny slices of bread! The gnocchi was quite good though and a great value for such a large portion. The worst thing is that the tables on either side of us were also complaining about the same server/service. The bar area pre-dinner, however, was a delight as the bartendress was knowledgeable and friendly and recommended a great white. Based on this alone, however, it is questionnable whether I'll be back.

Epicurian delight!
My husband and I have eaten here several times when we come in from L.I.. I always seek it out when I come into town alone. Have never been disappointed ... it is consistently great!

Didn't expect much, but
Saw the place & didn't expect much. We went early and the place was pretty empty. We started with what seemed to be Sullivan Street bread, good olives and EVO with roasted garlic. A mixed tri-colore salad looked skimpy, but we split it & it was surprisingly enough. "The Best Meatballs in the city," turned out to be "The Best Meatballs in the city." A chicken franciese was very serviceable, chicken moist on a good bed of spinach. My daughter had the Mac & Cheese and it was wonderful, 3 cheeses, not burnt or forced flavored, but rich without being cloying. It had black truffles and she had them on the side, tasted them & then put them in. The black truffles were delicious & I think it was $11 ? Pretty darn good. The service was very nice & for $7.50 a real good glass of Chianti Reserve.
