    Excellent Moroccan

A friend and I went to Le Souk Harem for the first time tonight, and I was really pleased. The atmosphere is pleasantly funky, a bar downstairs and darkly-lit tables on the second and third floors. The third floor, where we ate, also features Moroccan-style lamps, low tables (regrettably, no cushions), and real hookah drinks! Food-wise, we were completely happy. The harisa soup was fantastic, and my lamb chops were extremely tender and tasty (although petite), as were the accompanying braised figs. Our waitress was beyond attentive, stopping by (but in a casual, friendly way) every 15 minutes or so to see if everything was okay. What can I say? With its relatively low prices, Le Souk should be high on your list of places to try.

    Favorite place in the city

Le Souk is my favorite 'go to' place in NYC! The first time I went to Le Souk was for a bachelorette party. We purchased bottle service and had a table for the night -- the music and service were both amazing; they even brought us a complimentary cake for the group! I recently went back with a friend and had a three course meal, including hookah and drinks -- food was delicious! The service was a bit slow, but it was a busy Saturday night and the waiter made up for it by bringing us drinks on the house! What's great about this place is that you have a bit of everything you may be looking for -- for a quiet, casual dinner you can sit outside, eat and smoke a hookah. For a more lounge feel there is the middle floor area, and for the late night go to dancing spot, the top floor is perfect -- I would just recommend getting a table because it gets a bit crowded and uncomfortable if you don't have a designated area for your group.

    Great place!

Hello, My name is Ann Marie. I recently had my birthday party at Le Souk. Not only was the atmosphere the perfect version of Middle Eastern flare I was looking for. My party of 20 received immaculate service, and wonderful food and drinks all night long. I definitely recommend Le Souk for any occasion.

    Unexpectedly...Amazing

I went to Le Souk 2 weeks ago, and I was not very excited since I read the previous reviews. My friends were doing their birthday party there. It was really amazing, we all had a great great time and actually surprisingly nothing like the reviews I read. There plenty of food, actually the dishes were huge, the atmosphere was amazing, the servers were very attentive. They even let my drunk girlfriend dance on top of the couches with the bellydancers. Will absolutely come back!

    Great night out!

We had an amazing night here, would definitely recommend it. It was a Thursday and we went around 9 pm for dinner. We shared a mezze platter and some different entrees and everything from the couscous to the lamb was spot-on. Sangria was delicious. Finished up with a hookah. We decided to go with the mojito flavor and it definitely didn't disappoint. Very fresh tasting. The music was amped up at that point so we ended up staying for a few more drinks. Great DJ. The place gets really packed and this was the one down-side so I would get there early especially if you want to enjoy dinner before it gets really jammed.

Worst restaurant in NYC, maybe the world

The title of this review says it all, but I could go on for days about how terrible this place is. When we first got there on a recent, slow Saturday night the first thing we found odd was that someone at the table next to us incorrectly ordered a bottle of the wrong water and the waiter claimed he couldn't take it back. It didn't even appear to be open which made it even more perplexing. We then tried to take a look at the menu, but it was too dark in the restaurant to see them without holding a candle directly underneath them. Next, if you go to this place and your waiter slightly resembles a younger version of Matthew Modine, please take my advice and just leave. Not that the rest of the staff was much better, he was by far the worst waiter I have ever had in my life. After sitting there for about 15 minutes (on a super slow night) while he was just standing there up against the wall, he stumbled over and asked, "Would you like something?" Although annoying, we proceeded to order our drinks/courses. After he delivered the bottle of white wine which he just sat on our table without an ice bucket or anything, we didn't see him until we asked for the bill. With no one there, our appetizers and entrees still took forever. When we finally got the food, everything was extremely disappointing. The appetizers were tiny even though they were mostly veggie based and a normal person would have to order about 4 apps each to be satisfied. For the entree I ordered one of their tajines and it was even smaller and more disappointing than our apps. There were 2 small pieces of meat mixed with one olive and one small piece of dried fruit (the 2 things that give this dish taste). If this dish didn't include rice, it literally could have been consumed in 3 bites. My wife's dish was the same in terms of size and flavor. I would guess that the preparation cost of the entire meal was at most 50 cents. We both consumed our mini, miserable meal in about 3 minutes and sat unattended, with empty dishes on our table for at least 30 minutes. A manager looking guy walked by a few times and appeared concerned and aware that we were being ignored, but he still didn't do anything. Finally, our waiter removed himself from the wall and we got our check. On our way out we complained to the manager who was struggling to multi task and he was even more useless than the other staff. We left angry and went around the corner for burgers.

    Not recommended

Okay, Im someone who enjoys finding great food, and sharing it with everyone. I love a place who embraces customer service, food quality and ambiance. I've been here once at the other location, I enjoyed myself. But last night, I returned (new location) and it was a disaster. Honestly. Im on menupages a few times a week and this is my first review, I just had to. We were bringing a large party, and planning on spending a lot of money here, which we knew and made specific plans with the owners wife. Everything was changed once we got there. They tried to charge everyone $40 who were coming for our gathering. This is a free venue. a place you can go and eat and drink and enjoy the music. at least i thought that is what we were told. And which was true for everyone else entering except us. The bartenders were rude, the owner was rude and the food wasn't as good as in its other location.
