Le Singe Vert

I used to go to this place two years ago and always was OK, more or less. Yesterday night I tried it again and to my surprise, food, service and value were superior. For sure I"ll be back hoping they keep the new standard.

There is a relatively new chef at the restaurant and the food is now quite good. I would say it's on par with Balthazar. Dont understand or agree with the reivews so I would recommend that you try it and see. The skate is very well prepared and the frites are exceptional. I have been there three times in the past six weeks and have had consistently good meals as have my dining companions.

When I moved into the neigborhood I looked at this place and said "what a perfect little dinner spot". Well, appearances are deceiving. Rude maitre d'. Rude inattentive waiters. Very slow service. Too bad because the food was passable and the place has a nice atmosphere. Why not have polite employees?

We went here because it was the only place that could seat our party quickly... And now I know why. Brunch took 2 hours, half of which was waiting for a waiter. They were unwilling to make substations, and overall had poor service.

I never ever write reviews but had to write about what a poor experience we had at Le Singe Vert. The food was ok (not stand out, but not bad) but my friend had a salad with chicken that was undercooked. When she respectfully pointed out to the waiter and asked them to please cook it a bit more, the waiter gave her a look of disdain but did take it away to replace it. Then the hostess came over, we thought to apologize, but instead came to berate her, saying the chef said it was perfectly cooked, so she asked him to recook it and burn it. I live in the neighborhood and love French bistro food, but will never come back.

I am so disappointed in this place. My girlfriend and her friends have lived in Chelsea for 10 + years and have been going here the whole time. I learned tonight that there is a new chef who is removing the hamburger from the menu, but they were kind enough to make one for us tonight, however they refused to make sautéed onions and mushrooms which they used to make and were amazing at. The next problem was my steak came out well done when I asked for it to be rare. Thats a stretch. How can a guy removing a burger from the menu to upsell to the steak not make a steak the way it was asked. To add insult upon injury the waitstaff charged us for 5 drinks they didn't bring to us. Basically they were entering them into the computer and the service team was supposed to bring them to us and never did. The bill was somewhere between $50 and $75 dollars padded and since I didn't pay I didn't figure it out until I got back home. I am fuming and will never go back. Halloween is no excuse for poor service or poor cooking.

this place used to be great - especially as the "go-to" neighborhood spot. however, since they changed the decor and menu (which, there was no reason to do either), its gone downhill and sadly has not been the same since. the staff (and that includes management) is now rude and lazy, plus they seem to change all the time anyway. i miss the old le singe vert, there is no reason to go to this one.
