suprisingly quaint and sophisticated french fare

Given other french restaurants in manhattan, this was a very resonably priced and enjoable french restaurant. The decour was suprising and fun and the deserts were exception especially the profiterals which were ice cream cream puffs in a delectable ganche. Staff wise the floor manager, was very kind and helpful. Overfull i would defnitly come here again.

    Liked it

Agree that the portions were normal and satisfiying size so I didn't feel like I ate a cement block. Very good steak cooked perfectly, great fries and tasty sauce. Only problem was that the AC had us absolutely frigid and we had to ask several times for some relief. Would definitely go back.

While my first experience here was a good one, it's not Paris! The staff was exceptional and the food was yummy. Wine was good! My friend-a vegetarian- was very happy with plate of cheeses! Said she would go back! Overall experience was great! Thanks to Ola our waitress!

    Welcome To Howard Johnson's

This restaurant's steak is equivalent to Howard Johnson's clams. In other words, not really L'Entrecote. The steak is sliced so thin and drowned in sauce, it could be spam that you're eating. Only the high calorie fries saves the day. At least Howard Johnson's offered options. The no-option menu for $30 is not a value when you think that it is comparable to "mess hall" eating. Come at a popular time and, having no bar, you have to wait in line. Staff is very robotic, quickly clearing tables and taking orders. Order a drink from the limited beverage menu and it takes forever -- clearly a sign that most patrons do not select this option. Don't order white wine because it comes warm (of course, I am probably the only one ordering white wine in a spam, a mean steak, house.) The only people who might enjoy this place are families on a budget with children who want a novelty.

    Ask Groucho Marx

Had lunch - been wanting to go for some time. What a disappointment. Small albeit good salad. Wanted some more - NG. Steak was thinly sliced mini-portion. While a second serving was given it amounted to less than 1/2 of what would be served in a real steak house. Good fries albeit not as good as people say. "Special Sauce" was a poor hollandaise with mustard and herbs - meaningless. $29.95 - still a big profit with no real value. To paraphrase Groucho Marx after a trip to the Catskills " Such mediocre food and such small portions."

    Great Value in NYC

Readers: Do you really need a steak the size of Utah. This restaurant offers portions for normal eaters. We tried it for the first time this past Friday. The steak is cooked perfectly, the frites stay crispy and the steak sauce is something really special.
