    rude rude rude

It hurts me to do so, but I have to give this place credit because the food is good, HOWEVER, the staff is rude and so obnoxious! The worst part about them is that they know how disgustingly rude and disrepectful they are and they just don't care. I mean the food is good but it's not worth being treated like a second class citizen.

    Vraiment Francaise!

One of my favorite spots In New York. The staff is great (not doting, not patronizing, but cordial and efficient), but may fall short of American "How Y'all Doing" expectations. The honest bistro fare and Gallic atmosphere transport me to my favorite city on earth, Paris, every time.

    Never Again

I stopped by for a quick bite with my boyfriend at 7:30. There were no tables available so we sat at the bar. It was downhill from there. The rude waitress took our drink order & didn't return for about 30 minutes. Finally, the bartender took our order (He was the only pleasant person we encountered) For appetizers,we had the steak tartare served with arugula that had so much lemon in the dressing it made the entire dish taste like lemonade, french fries that tasted like fish and the very average onion soup (all served sans napkins or utensils) The entrees never arrived. We waited 40 minutes and then gave up. The useless Maitre De, in the "too tight suit", made no apologies. Pros: The heat worked well Cons: The staff and the food

    Follow-Up - An excellent cassoulet

In my prior review, I advised some caution in ordering the entrees here. This caution does not extend to the cassoulet, which is excellent. If you're looking for a meal to ward off the winter chill, you should make the trip to Le Bateau Ivre and order a full-bodied Rhone, escargot and the cassoulet.

    Worth a Visit

If you think of Le Bateau Ivre as a wine bar/bistrot rather than as a restaurant, you're sure to have a very pleasant experience. The centerpiece is the wine list, where a wide variety of modestly priced wines are available by the glass and where you can get tasting "flights" that allow you to compare several wines before making your final choice. If you are looking for one of the top-quality (and top-priced) french wines, you can also find them at Le Bateau Ivre. The food alternates between very good and disappointing. The lighter fare (appetizers, sandwiches and deserts) are generally very good - the escargots are a real delight. The entrees are less successful. I recently opted for the Steak Tartare and soon realized that I had forgotten the old advice to never order tartare at a place that also has hamburger on the menu. The room is small and a bit cramped, but the service has always been good in my experience. The bar staff is knowledgeable about the wines available and will make good suggestions if you find the size of the wine list intimidates you. If you are looking for a light meal before going to the theatre, I think that Le Bateau Ivre might be a very good choice.

A little bit of France in NYC

I have had the pleasure of visitng this resturant on several occasions. The food is great and wines are wonderful. The staff is friendly and the bartender, Eric is very pleasant, knowledgable about wines if you are not sure what type of wine to drink.

    Food disappoints, Wine excels

I've tried the food twice. I cannot recommend it. However, if you want to learn about wine, you should go and ask the wait-staff to recommend a glass or two. They will steer you right, and you will have a wonderful time.
