Go for the beautiful people but not for the food
Great atmosphere and beautiful people. Other than that - would not recommend. Food was underseasoned and no salt on the table and/or barely edible. Watery salad dressing, marinades all off and just tasted off. Portions were small but that's OK because didn't want to eat the food anyway. Would have sent a number of things back if I wasn't with clients. Service slow and got a bit of an attitude. Hugely expensive for what you get.

Take your ear plugs!
Reservation for 16 so money to be spent.. But to wait 90 minutes for your table and then be placed at the restroom door is ridiculous! The bar area is unbelievably crowded and populated by Those Who Wish To Be Seen. That said, the food was plentiful, tasty and well presented. Tuna tartare excellent, pizzas interestingly different, and great meatballs. Service good, but dining room far too crowded so diners always being bumped (the restroom position!). Wine list good but way overpriced - even by NYC standards. Would go back under duress on someone's expense account.

Great for a special occasion
What the headline says. This restaurant is good for those once-in-a-blue-moon dinner when $300 for four people isn't that bad, because it's someone's birthday/anniversary/etc. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. It's loud, the lighting's warmer, there are servers and hostesses and busboys running through the very narrow gaps between tables in the dining room. It's a place to see and be seen. Highlights of the meal: the garlic bread, kobe meatball with ricotta, the lobster bisque, lobster diavlo, garlic mashed potatoes and veal milanese (that's not even all of what we ordered). My brother hated his four cheese pizza (oily and so salty your eyes crossed when you bit into it) but other than that, an amazing meal. The dessert was probably the highlight of my night - the oreo zeppole (it's essential fried oreas that you did in vanilla milkshake). AMAZING. I'd do Lavo again, in another year's time.

Admittedly not Entirely "Authentic"
But still phenomenal anyway. It might offend the sensibilities of those who enjoy dining in a old world-style italian restaurant - it's definitely a scene - but the service was very attentive, the food was great and the atmosphere exciting. Certainly recommend to anyone looking for a fun night out in the city.

ups and downs
Waited for table for close to an hour...gave coat check tickets to hostess who then had the table ready to go within 5 minutes haha...amzging garlic bread, good meatball, good pizza margherita, decent chicken parm, sub par desserts, expensive drinks, so so service...overall a shit show.

Surprise
Sometimes you hear about a new restaurant and don't know what to make of the mixed reviews. Since it is so new it is tough to get a reservation so call early. Everyone was extremely nice from the hostess to the server. Had a great corner table for two. Food was very tasty which always adds to the night and the atmosphere was that of a brighter Gemma - packed and loud. Exactly what you would expect from a new hot spot. Try the tuna tartar. I did have to wait a few moments for a table but its par for the course. definitely going back.
