Awesome food - nice wine list
I moved to the area a few years ago and I have been taking people here ever since. Lavagna has nice decor - granted, if you go in the spring when it's hot out and sit next to the kitchen, its rather warm. But the food makes up for it. I feel bad because I keep ordering their ravioli - it is seasonal so it is always different, but always delicious. You can just taste how homemade it is. The insalata misto is rather good as well, and they have a great wine list. Definitely worth a visit. Someone had mentioned the pizza - why would you go to an awesome italian restaurant and order pizza? If you are looking for pizza, go to grimaldi's or lombardi's. My brother ordered it because he isn't that adventurous, and he didn't like it because it wasn't like the pizza he normally eats. I thought it was great though.

great, great place
took my woman here last week and we got the flambeed (sp?) snapper for two, it was incredible. she's been talking about it all week so we're headed back tomorrow night. been there several times over the years and everything's great but i'll be back for the fish again and again. place is a little cozy, nothing we're not used to downtown. service is terrific.

disappointed
sadly i cannot agree with the previous reviewers.. the food was just not good. from the pizza to the rigatoni to the pappardelle.. pure disappointment. and they had the bill on the table before any of us had finished our drinks. definitely will not return.

Amazing & Fantastic
Indescribable food, atmosphere and service. I can't explain to you in words (you must try it yourself) what I experienced last night at this quaint restaurant in the city, but I will remain a diligent customer that raves about this restaurant for years to come. Please go out of your way to eat this amazing food. Just Perfection.....

Great Italian in East Village
The only thing negative I can say about this restaurant is that it is small and a tight fit & close proximity to other tables but the food and service more than make up for this inconvenience. You feel like you were transported into a small village in Italy and the staff make you feel right at home. I have eaten here many times and I always start with the scallops and they are beyond belief. My friends always order the mussles appetizer and rave about it also. I have tried the fish (always fresh and delicious) and the pastas and I must say the food is superb. If you are in the neighborhood you must sample the dining experience here.

Great neighborhood italian
We tried this place after reading the Zagat review. The food was great; we tried the rigatoni, pizzette, spinach ravioli, and apple fruit tart. The ravioli and rigatoni were especially delicious. Although the portions for some dishes were small, the prices are very reasonable - just order accordingly. The place is small but feels more cozy than cramped. Service was excellent: great recommendations, attentive, and very hospitable. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend this place!
