    Love it!

This place is a must-try! Their $8.95 lunch menu can't be beat. We have been here half a dozen times now and haven't been disappointed once. Staff is very friendly and helpful. This is my new favorite lunch spot in Chelsea. Highly recommend!

    Better at home

You can do better at home. First , the place is overcrowded, and those dumb tea lights you can't read anything with. Due to the darkness, the ordered Spinach Lasagna came not with Spinach Noodles, but with layers of chopped spinach and garlic....not what I had in mind. The Sirloin Lasagna seemed overly oily. Two of my guests ordered cheesecake for desert, basic flavors from any warehouse bakery in NYC. Now, I make my own lasagna at home, and serve a fine amaretto cold souffle for dessert. When I am pressed for a NYC Italian tourista dinner, I drag my guest to this place....saves me an evening of dishes ...

    Oh my god, Lasagna !!

Last night, a friend called with a personal crisis and asked that I meet him in the "Circuit Party of New York". Yes...he asked me to meet him in Chelsea. Land of muscle men and washboard abs (I knew I should have worked out yesterday). We walked down 8th ave, and I spotted this place. We decided to give it a try. Entering the restaurant, our hostess sat us at a table right next to the window. Why? Because this is Chelsea...it's all about watching the eye candy walk by. It was at this point, when I opened my menu, I realized why no self respecting circuit boy had walked into this restaurant. Carbs. They are the enemy and they had declared full war in this place! Every item is a garlic infused carbohydrate packed delight. I looked at my waist, and since my pants were feeling a bit on the loose side, I figured I could handle it...as long as I did it in moderation. Bring on the feast! Our waiter, a cute guy I honestly think I may have dated in the past (so many men...so little that are memorable), recommended the Four Cheese Lasagna with a pink sauce. Pink sauce? Could I be any more gay?...I'll take it. My friend ordered the Chicken Marsala, which comes with of side of guess what? Pasta! Bring on the carbs! Neither of us will be having boyfriends tonight! Thankfully, as we were finishing our second basket of bread, the lasagna came out. Now for those of you who don't know this, it's time I set the record straight. Ladies and gentlemen: Size matters. Specifically when it comes to lasagna, and the Gorgonzola, ricotta, Parmesan and mozzarella goodness that I was about to eat showed just what kind of size queen I can be. This lasagna was larger than two of my fists put together. There was no way possible I was going to eat all of that....but damn it...I was going to try! Thankfully our waiter wrapped up the remaining 2/3, which I will be able to eat for breakfast...and lunch, and dinner today. It was that much food! Now some of you (well any of you who've actually read this far down) may be wondering why I only rated this restaurant 4 stars. Well, you see, I had dinner last night at 8:00 pm. It is now 12:30 the next day. I've brushed my teeth twice, flossed, had several cups of coffee and some sugarless gum. Yet still I'm tasting garlic 16 hours later! Enough already. I need to get on a treadmill. My waist currently resembles a muffin top.

Overestimated Diner - Walk Past, Quickly

Once bitten, twice shy. I have serious issues about this restaurant that have not been alluded to in other posts: 1. HOST(ESS): There seems to be an awful lot of difficulty on the restaurant's part to get a pleasant, inviting, and accomodating host(ess). The times that I have been there the host(ess) have been quite directive, cold, and somewhat distracted. 2. SPACE: I realize that NYC restaurants in general do not enjoy ample space, but Lasagna's space allocation is way too tight. If you were to go there on a crowded night, you might be asked to pass a dish over to another table. Once I was seated, i felt as though I was captive in my seat. It really is somewhat claustrophobic. I worry about what the horror scene it might be if an emergency were to ensue. 3. FOOD: Yes, the lasagna is decent, but what else? Although, it tends to be loaded with lasagna moreso than the "extras!" When a restaurant has a plethora of items on their menu, I begin to worry whether I am at the diner or not. That is the case here. They seem to have a multitude of dishes which leads me to believe their freezers are filled and the delay is due to the thawing and microwaving of dishes. I got annoyed that the bread already had this pesto sauce on it. Why, pray tell? 4. SERVICE: The waitstaff is seductive in both their demeanor and appearance. I do wonder if they are too friendly and cross boundaries and assume too much familiarity. Consumers are in restaurants to be served not to make friends/acquaintance. It is important not to mix roles. Too, I have serious concern when some of the waitstaff wore muscle shirts/tank tops. It made me almost throw up thinking that their exposed underarm hairs were touching and carrying my food. 5. LOYALTY: I am not convinced that loyalty to a restaurant offers any benefits. The owner does not seem to have any interest in sustaining patronage by friendly outreach. 6. HANDICAP ACCESS/BATHROOM: Don't even bother bringing a wheelchair bound person into this restaurant. As mentioned above, it is as tight as can of sardines, table to table, chair to chair, and the bathroom is way downstairs. I would seriously consider other options on the runway. This is one place you can pass up.

    Subpar Service

I and my partner visiting NY from Scotland, had previously eaten in this restaurant over a year ago, and remembered it as being good, with good pasta. We therefore decided to try again on the evening of Tuesday 6th Jan '09. Big Mistake. There were just two tables occupied when we arrived. The receptionist was very polite, and showed us to our table. We ordered wine and food. Our starters were fine. When my main course arrived, the potatoes and most of my food was cold. The chicken was warm but the potatoes were properly cold inside. I called the waiter, and explained, and without any apology or explanation he went off, and came back with a little bowl of potatoes which he placed on the table, and said to me 'here are some more potatoes', and went to walk off. I called him back and explained to him that I wasn't very happy, as my dinner overall was not very hot, so my problem was not solved. At this point without any discussion, he walked away and called over another guy (he said he was the manager), who came and leaned across me and my partner in what we believed was a very ignorant way. I tried explaining, but the response I got was as follows, he said 'you've got extra potatoes what else do you want? This was said in what we felt was an extremely arrogant and condescending manner. When I tried to explain, he interrupted me and said 'do you want me to stick my fingers in it and make it look cute? This person in our opinion behaved in the most arrogant way towards both me and my partner. Hot dishes served cold are not acceptable, and even a street burger bar will take it seriously. We did not pay and left, for a truly excellent meal at another Italian restaurant nearby. Like I said at the beginning, we had had a previous very good experience with this restaurant, so it is a terrible shame that we recieved such awful service. On our previous visits the pasta here was very good.

    Disappointing

Walking along 8th avenue trying to decide where to eat we stopped to read the menu at Lasagna ... it looked good so we went in ... big mistake! The seating is cramped, the wait staff was immature, fooling around constantly. After ordering we waited and never received a bread basket...we asked and it finally arrived...after 20 minutes the waitress came back and asked if we ordered calamari as she had forgotten to place the order...the wine was very acidic and the food was passable at best.

    Highly Disagree with mistake

As my title states, I disagree with the review "MISTAKE." As someone who has lived in the area for over 15 years I can tell you what a delight it is having Lasagna Restaraunt in the neighborhood. There are plenty of stuffy Italian restaurants in this neighborhood. If that's what you're looking for that's fine. I myself enjoyed the atmosphere. And my boyfriend was more then happy to have the ballgame on (not that I'm not good company.) And as far as the food is concerned it was delicious. My boyfriend had the beef lasagna and I had the linguine with bacon and ham. AWESOME! Had to take it home and even better the next day when I had for lunch at work. Mistake? No. Some people just live to complain.
