The Best In NY. Period.
We come back so often because there are still many flavours we wanna try or relive the pleasure of a cool delight! But what i really really love are their cantaloupe/melon, passion fruit, green apple SORBET... i love their gelato too, especially the ones with alcohol in them! Unfortunately the space is small and service is spotty... but as long as i get my cool delight, who cares?!! :)

Comes With Side of Attitude
I did a lot of research on-line before heading to NYC for vacation... L'Arte del Gelato came up consistently as "the best gelato in town!"; reviews said visiting was "just like being in Italy!" I've never been to Italy (maybe when I've got more money!), but I LOVE gelato, so I copied down all the addresses/locations for L'Arte and made a mental note to visit at least one of them; we wound up at the one in Chelsea Market at 75 Ninth Avenue. The gelato was fine-- I ordered a double scoop-- one banana, one sesamo-- very fresh and creamy. (One of my friends got cappuccino, though, and that one tasted just like Kahlua... sans the alcohol.) The SERVICE, however, was poor. The Italian girl at the counter (she had an Italian accent) was downright nasty. She not only made fun of us for asking what certain flavors were (they're all printed in Italian)... she also mocked us for pronouncing them incorrectly (or ordering directly in English)... AND for even ordering them in the first place! ("Only an American would order those flavors together.") She had to have known that we could both hear and understand her! Her snide comments were, in my opinion, extremely rude. You won't hear the staff at a Chinese restaurant insulting customers for butchering the pronunciation (and they inevitably will) of items on THEIR menu. In short, the gelato was sweet, but the experience as a whole left a sour taste in my mouth. I'll go elsewhere next time... or skip the gelato altogether. I'd rather get "American" ice cream than be insulted for-- heaven forbid!-- spending money here.

Rude service in West Village shop
I chose the grande size for "up to 3 flavors" on the board. When I asked for the 3rd flavor, the server was pissed and said "If you wanna 3rd flavor, you should have told me". She was very rude.

Why is Gelato always expensive?
Always overpriced! $4.75 for a small cup? really?? The flavors were good, Pisatachio and Nutella worked well together. I just wish that it wasn't so small and expensive!!

Excellent ice cream
The best ice cream I had on my trip to NYC (far better than Chinatown Ice Cream Factory or Cones, also in Greenwich village, although they're more famous for their sorbets, which for some reason I skipped). Can't recommend any particular flavor - all three I tried were excellent.
