I ate here a few weeks ago and thought it was great. The atmosphere is nice, kind of trendy with huge branches in the middle. The food was above average, and served very hot(temp). Be careful, spicy food can be very spicy. Service was a little slow, but the atmosphere and food made up for it. Tuna tartare was great, and I enjoyed the pad thai too.

The best thing about lantern is the atmosphere but if you want to go solely for food experience then there are others that I like better. A lot of thai places have this 'space age' decor but Lantern has a traditional feel. I ordered the pad thai and whilst not bad was nothing spectacular. The staff were outstanding and attentive.

The food at lantern is really good...especially the Rama Curry with Shrimp, slightly sweet sauce with shrimp cooked well but not overdone. The desserts are awesome too..ask for fried ice cream and they bring it with a flame on top...we liked the presentation very much. The restaurant has done a good job with the lights all around and it's especially nice to sit in for dinner. Two thumbs up for Lantern Thai!

Decor and friendly service, it draws a crowd. Paying $17 for the grilled tuna special when it's just plain frozen, flavorless and unaccompanied by anything imaginative is just not worth the trip to the lower east side. Grilled soft shell crab that's so salty it's not even funny, steamed shrimp/chicken dumplings without shrimp, what the [bleep] , Asian fusion cuisine is not this joint's strongest point, but I am not going back to find out what it could be. Save your money and dine elsewhere.

I live block from this place and always went to Pongshri (the previous Thai palce that was in this location). Ever since new the ownership and the new name, the service was declined downthe hill. Food is decent but I never seen such attitude from the service staff. Its as if they are doing us a favor. The staff has so much attitude that I would never go back there any longer. They have to realize that Thai food in NYC is on every corner and if they don't change there attitude they will continue to loose customer b/c they lost 6 today for forever.

I disagree with everyone here. This place is so nice, the staff are delightful and there is a lovely airy feeling so you don't feel cramped. Take out is done really fast. Food is great value. There's a terrific early bird special. Food is excellent, not greasy at all, I love the squid. Try it out, it's really nice.

I have tried every Thai place around this area and this is now my go to for pad thai. Also try Spice and ThaiNY, but Lantern has delicious pad thai and a great atmosphere and very cheap.
