Bleh
My date wanted to take me to Landmarc for dinner last night, for whatever reason, he likes the place. After reading the reviews, I was lukewarm about it but didn't want to seem ungrateful. And I was indeed let down. The only good thing I had was the foie gras which was truly divine. The sweetbreads, ordinary. The lambchops, common. The seared tuna, uninspiring. The desserts, don't even bother. The waitress started out nice but then gave us our check when we were still having dessert, it was only 9:50pm. So we felt like that was a hint from her for us to wrap it up pronto. Overall, I wasn't impressed and would not recommend. I've had better food at lesser price with better service. It didn't help that there was a big table next to us with two little kids running round and round their table.....and round. But if you have money to burn and want to try it out, go for it but don't say nobody warned you.

one of my favorite restaurants
great variety and very nicely-done steaks. and, shockingly, you can get a decent wine here without paying double the retail price!

Annoying and strangely corporate
This place is irritating. It should be a relaxed neighborhood place, instead, the staff is insolent and inflexible, in a 'corporate' way. Why would they want to promote such an attitude, as if they're doing me a favor allowing me to eat there? I went last night with a friend, there were four tables upstairs empty, five tables downstairs empty. The hostess gruffly refused to seat us, stating she had to keep the tables for a larger party. Ok. Must be restaraunt policy. After waiting 25 minutes at the bar, we were seated (most of the larger tables still empty). I wanted the steak, but requested it with mashed potatoes instead of fries. The waiter looked at me as if I had asked for the unimaginable, stating it was impossible, pointing to the writing at the bottom of the menu stating 'no substitutions.' It would be one thing if the food was exquisite, each plate balanced just so. I ended up with the chicken (as it came with the non-fried potatoes). While the sauce was tasty and the food plentiful, the chicken was overcooked and dry. What's the deal here? To their credit, the wine value is good.

Poor value
Passable everything at a high Columbus Circle price. Service was particularly mediocre: a very nice waiter who clearly had little training in what he was doing. If you're looking for just-decent food around Columbus Circle and aren't aiming to impress anyone (including yourself), feel free, especially if someone else is paying. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

Decent Eats, Subpar Service
My girlfriend recently had her birthday dinner (January 19th) at this Tribeca spot. I had heard about it going in, good reviews for American Neuvo food. The reservation was for 8 people at an earlier time for dinner, approximately 6/630. The Service: The restaurant was not busy to the extent where it was our table and maybe 2 other tables occupied at the time. So you would immediately assume that the service would be attentive, but not overbearing as most of us do not like anyways. Not the case if I threw a fit and started having a seizure on the table, that still would not have grabbed any of the waiters' attention. Also, I think that a Host was nonexistent in this restaurant because we were not greeted before, during or after the meal. The food: The appetizers were very good nonetheless. Fried calamari with a spicy red sauce, chopped salad, and mussels steamed in a white wine sauce are safely recommended. Very good, great bread dunking but could have gotten that food anywhere else in the city. So nothing to rave over. And now to the entree, I ordered the Hangar steak medium-rare with our waiter. Not only did I get the steak well-done where it tasted and chewed in my mouth like a piece of rubber, but it was a Skirt steak they gave me! So I kept my mouth shut and ate a 1/4 of the steak because I did not feel like making a scene at my girlfriend's birthday dinner and in front of her family. Then I asked the waiter to take the rest home figuring I could eat it for lunch on Monday, or at least chew on it and spit it out after. Well, I never got the doggy bag with my $30 steak in it BUT I did leave with a bad taste in my mouth.

A Few Things Right, A Few Things Wrong
I enjoy the half bottle of wines they offer. I requested my filet a MW and when it arrived it was completely raw, practically black and blue. The chef needs to pay more attention. Perhaps if the grill wasnt in the bar his job would be a bit easier. When I requested a vegetable instead of fries, I as told no, I could only have additional salad. Make sure when request your meat to cut into it when the waiter is still present at the table.
