awesome
i live in the area and had always heard great things about lamarca. the pasta is so so so delicious, i always get their gnocchi and highly recommend it. i've never been to the restaurant..i always go to the cafe in the back mainly because it's cheaper and has exactly what i'm looking for. the guy (who seems to be getting some undeserved bad reviews) is always super helpful and nice to me and my friends. they have a variety of sauce choices and always offer to combine 2 of them in your pasta i could go on and on about how much i love this place, but i'll stop. it's excellent... go see for yourself

The Best Pasta In New York City
I live down the block and I go there every single week for pasta. I have never been displeased. The marinara and Alfredo sauces are the best I have ever tasted. I would recommend it to anyone.

Good food but....
Lamarca has some delicious dishes however the staff is seriously rude. The Cheese Shop has the most horrible service with one guy that is borderline crazy (yelled at me when I tried to order something that I have been buying there for months saying that they didn't sell it 'that way'). Overall, for the $$ , which is not cheap, I expect some level of service without the major attitude.

Gyp Joint
We live two blocks from this place, and ordered takeout after a long day. It took forever for the food to arrive, cost over $40 (for two entrees and an appetizer) and they got my order wrong. I am a lifetime vegetarian, and I asked for a dish "hold the pancetta"...Well it had tons of pancetta in it, and when I called and asked that they replace it, the guy said no, it was too much trouble. Mind you, we live literally two blocks from the place, and my dish was $15.50. He said he would just credit my card for the dish (which sucks when you are hungry) and of course NEVER issued the credit. So I feel that the (mediocre, overpriced) food doesn't compensate for the arrogant, blasé attitude of the staff. Will take my business elsewhere.

Great food but..
How can a restaurant in New York City be closed Saturdays and Sundays? Not to mention they close at 10pm during the week. I love their food but give me a break..

Fresh and Delicious
I've lived down the street for four years and have eaten here/from here at least once a month since I've been in the neighborhood. The pasta is so deliciously fresh and the polpette is so tender that it's the kind of dish that becomes your go-to comfort food. The marinara can be a little on the sweet side but if you ask for it to be made a little spicier the sweetness balances out. I wouldn't recommend going to Lamarca on a date - it's no frills atmosphere and shocking lighting will not exactly set the mood.....but if you're looking for reliably good pasta, you'll find it there.
