Best lunch place in the neighborhood

I am a little surprised by the negative reviews of Lamarca (both sides). I go there about twice a week because I work in the area. I started out getting soup on the counter side and loved it. Then I decided I wanted to have a waitress one day and ate pasta in the restaurant. I could not stop myself from eating it! It was a warm bowl of goodness. The garden salad is also a staple in my diet now. I love it so much that I usually scrape the bottom bowl with the soft bread. Obviously, this place is close to my heart and stomach, and my waistline might prove it! I go to both places and love it each time. I rated food and service 4.5 because I was not as impressed with the Pumpkin Soup that my coworker raved about. Could be my taste buds. The people behind the counter have always been friendly, but it can feel a little rushed.

    Good place

Hi. There are two parts to Lamarca. There is a restaurant and then there is a mini shop with some seating, this is the one I go to once a week. I always heard amount Lamarca from classmates so one day I went not knowing there are 2 sides to the Lamarca. I go in and I say take out, the lady gives me a menu. I order, she hands it to me and I said, I thought it was supposed to $5, so looked at me like I had to heads, I ended up paying $11 for really poor manicotti, So I learned there is a take out. I gave the food portion a rate of 4 because I only get Aurora, I have never tried anything else, it's delicious. I don't know how the other sauces are. But for a pint it's only 5 bucks, you are not wasting a whole lot if you don't like, so give it a try.

    meh...

Visited Lamarca twice, once for the eat-in cafe and once for the take out side. One good experience, one bad. The eat-in experience was nice, nothing great, nothing horrible. Take out experience was the worst! Walked in on a whim, unsure of what I wanted and was rudely told to 'step aside for paying customers.' I walked out still hungry. If you're really craving pasta and in the neighborhood, go ahead and sit down, just don't expect too much. Otherwise, forget it. Such rude service does not warrant patronage.

    perfect lunch

I eat on the cafe/cheese shop side regularly and their food is always great. I've never had a problem with the service. In the fall they have a creamy pumpkin soup that it incredible.

    This place is great!

I'm a regular take-out patron for LaMarca and I've always had an excellent, authentic Italian meal from them. They're always pleasant on the phone, a bit rushed because I'm assuming they're busy, but never rude as No-ham-vegetarian states. I would safely assume any restaurant here in the city that is about to close for the night would have an issue with re-preparing a customized (which really shouldn't be) menu item. As for the takeout food itself, it typically arrives hot. If it's not hot and the sauce is congealed a little - I have this wonderful invention called a microwave to heat it up - which amazingly loosens up the sauce too! As for the atmosphere - if you're looking for luxury, romantic dining - this isn't the place. If you're looking for great food over dinner with friends, family, or spouse - then this is the place. It's a plain restaurant. It has walls, tables, chairs, and people. And $15 for the servings you typically get is a bargain compared to other places in the city. And for a restaurant that can be closed on Saturday and Sunday nights and still be in business in the season - that's gotta say something about their reputation as being a great Italian place. If you're looking for authentic Italian food without all the unnecessary luxury, romanticism, etc. - then this is the place for you. You really can't get much better Italian in the city. I'd pay very little attention to the negative reviews on this restaurant.

    good food, poor attitude

I ordered take out from LaMarca the other night, and although it was pricey (for 2 people it was over $40) I was in the mood for pasta. Well, I am a vegetarian so I asked for a dish without the ham. Seemed simple enough... I do it all the time. Well, lo and behold, it shows up, and there is ham all over the place. So we called and asked if they could send us a replacement, and they said no, because it was almost closing time... I literally live 1 block from this place, btw. They said the only thing they could do was to credit me back my $17 for that dish, so I said ok...and made do with salad and bread. They never credited my card...so I basically threw $17 into the trash can...

    subpar takeout

Normally when I order takeout I'm not expecting it to be amazing. It's takeout, I'm not expecting gormet food. My girlfriend and I order it when we dont want to go to a restaurant or cook at home. Therefore I am usually pretty laid back and have never actually written a review before. Lamarca totally changed that. We ordered two pasta dishes and a stuffed mushroom appetizer. To begin with, it took slightly over 1 hour to be delivered which was annoying seeing as we live roughly 5mins away. However I'm willing to overlook that if the food is good, sadly it wasnt. The pasta was a congealed mess and simply did not taste of anything. The description of a 'creamy tomato sauce' was not accurate at all for my dish. I poured the pasta out of the container and it kept its shape as a solid block, as if the pasta had been sitting in the container for a while. My gf's dish was marginally better, although she also complained that it was congealed and the sauce was practically non-existent. The stuffed mushrooms were ok, and the sauce that they came in was good. They also included two bread rolls that I literally would have needed a steak knife to cut them with, they were totally stale. To top it all off, the bill for this disaster came to $40 + tip. Maybe people have had good experiences here and i was just unlucky, however this was honestly one of the worst experiences of takeout I have ever had in NYC.
