    Don't go here

My friends and I just went to lair, a downtown modern dim sum lounge. We went for our friends 23rd Birthday Party and were a party of 9. When we initially made the reservation by calling the restaurant and given a hard time. They told us that they had a reservation immediately after ours and that we would need to be out by that time. We told the restaurant we would not be any problem and would be done by the agreed upon time. (Which was very disrespectful for a party reservation) Upon arrival, we were given the table by the door which was very drafty. We ordered drinks and appetizers to start our group off. The food took forever to come out. While we were waiting for the food we wanted to place additional food and drink orders but our waitress was no where to be found. I spoke to her about how things were going not so well she responded that she would try her hardest to make things better. In the end she worked things out but was still very inattentive . The bussing and serving staff was so bad and would occasionally take away our dishes before we were done. Finally, after we talked to our waitress and the manager they tried to make the rest of the night positive. Dessert was ok but they tired to push us out after we tried to pay the high bill instead of trying to make out night a positive one. Overall it is an okay downtown bar but the service is poor. I would not recommend going here.

    First Date Jitters

Everyone gets nervous on their first date. What’s worse is when you have a friend who wants to set you up with someone. A good friend of mine told me about someone they wanted me to meet. Hesitant as first I decided to give it a try (and I’m glad I did). I had heard about a place in Soho called Lair and we decided to go there. we decided to meet up last night. When I walked in I met the guy at the bar. I decided to order the Sangria to start off the night. We sat down and began talking. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting and definitely helped to break the ice and nerves of a first date. The music wasn’t to loud, which was good as we were engaged in a conversation. We proceeded to move from the bar to a seated area to order some appetizers as we continued to talk. The Chicken and Foie Gras San Jin Dumplings were a huge hit! The lighting, as well as the décor helped to set the mood from what I thought would be a horrendous night to a night that wasn’t bad at all. Deciding we didn’t want to end the evening quite yet my date and I decided to order some dessert. We went with the Ice Cream and Sorbet Selection. It was a refreshing taste after the dumplings. I highly recommend Lair for anyone going on a first date. The food and drinks complement each other well. Thanks to Lair I’ll be going on my second date with this guy soon.

    Great food

We came here for my friends birthday party. Since it's new, we did not know what to except. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the food. The menu is not that big, so we ordered pretty much everything from appetizers. What really stood out is bone marrow dish. It was very different and tasty. The service was pretty good as well. When we got there, around 7, the place was kind of empty. But it did fill up by 10. I wish it had more people earlier. Overall, nothing to complain about. Truly great food.
