I was a huge fan of Gwynett St, so I was excited to try Lachlan. Came on a Friday with a date. From start to finish the service was below par - it was impossible to get the waiter's attention and forget about holding it for more than 2 seconds. We had long waits for drinks and for our plates to be cleared. The restaurant was full, so quite loud. The food: had the apple salad to start - too acidic, the octopus - delicious, and the duck - cooked perfectly, but the barley served on the side wasn't very tasty / didn't compliment the duck. Creme brulee to finish - largest portion of the evening and very good. Huge plus - the whiskey bread is as good as ever. Price points for the portions are a little off. It's trying too hard to be upscale and casual at the same time - and I can say after 5 years living in London, calling yourself a gastropub does not make it so. It's confused, maybe just growing pains. Would definitely return for happy hour, would never return for a dinner date, might return for a casual dinner with friends and stick to the bar food items.
