    Great Addition to the Neighborhood

I just got home from a great dinner at La Vara with my family. In four people, we got a variety of dishes to share, and we weren't disappointed by a single one. One of the diners is a vegetarian, and we found that there were plenty of options suitable to her tastes! The food was absolutely delicious, the service efficient and friendly, and overall it was a very positive experience. The space, which was very nicely renovated, was a bit noisy for my taste (we had trouble hearing each other/the waitress), but otherwise it is a comfortable dining room. Highlights of the meal included the crispy eggplant with honey, the fried artichokes with aioli, and the sardines. We got the suckling pig special which was to die for, as well as a special vegetarian stuffed avocado squash with tomato sauce that was absolutely delicious. The lamb meatballs with yogurt sauce were flavorful and well spiced. This was an excellent meal and I am excited to go back and try more dishes in the future! La Vara is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Excellent Spanish food in Cobble Hill

Have been there twice and loved it both times. Great bartender and wait staff make you feel like family, and the wine list is fantastic. Tapas are delicious--though portions are a little small. Much needed and welcomed neighborhood addition now that José and La Mancha are gone.
