    Wonderful event restaurant!

We decided to celebrate a recent anniversary at La Esquina after the hubby met out-of-town family members here & came home raving about this super-cool place w/ fabulous food. We had to make a downstairs reservation area a couple week in advance, even if aiming for early on a week night. I have to admit, after reading some of the reviews, I was a bit wary of coming here & facing the staff members. But everyone from the hosts to the waitstaff was personable & accommodating. Very cool cavernous downstairs. The ribeye was amazing as was the ceviche & chicken. I kind of wish they served rice w/ the entrees (instead of those chips) but that’s such a minor thing. Blood orange margarita was tasty but strong. Okay we did encounter a sliver of ’tude while leaving…the stairs get confusing & we ended up leaving through some middle seating level (possibly “the café” part?) not the taqueria part where we entered, & a waitress said “this is the wrong exit”…how were we to know our way out of that maze of stairs & hallways? But it’s all good because promptly after that, another waitress thanked us for coming! Overall, I can imagine how on a weekend, later at night when all the scenesters are out, the brasserie/downstairs restaurant could possibly be irritatingly too-hip to go to, but the food is terrific so go early on a weeknight if you want to avoid that element. I’d also like to try the taqueria at some point, as so many people talk about how delicious the food is there too. Yummy!

    Great food and great service

Been going here recently during lunch hour and the food is amazing. Steak tacos are the best I've ever had. Service is always really nice and fast. Also left a bag there and they kept it safe a whole day.

    Good sandwiches

Went to La Esquina for the first time today for lunch. At first it was confusing to figure out on your own which part of the of the restaurant is take-out, in which they forgot to tell me when they saw me looking at a menu and not sitting down like everyone else. But once i got to the take-out side the people couldnt be more friendly. A young Latin man who assisted me and did a good job making sure i was taken care of. I advise everyone to try the "Pepito" sandwich, they maybe over exaggerating with too many onions but it was soo good with the chimichurri sauce (would taste good with an avocado in it to) oh and try the maduro's with their special green sauce on top. Perfection for such a little place with two mexicans working fast to serve everyones order.

    Attitude Makeover required

The restaurant and food are good. The people taking reservations on the phone and in person are rude. Good luck getting anyone to be nice or helpful over the phone. You would think they would want people to come in, doesn't sound like it from the cold and full of attitude voice you get over the phone.

    review and rereview

I've been here several times before and always enjoyed it. I have never had any of the negative experiences that others have found. The service has always been friendly and if they were anything less than professional, I would leave. That said, I have booked a party there and I am having huge reservations based on the negative reviews ie: bad wine, snotty service, mediocre food. I am hoping that they have their act together enough to read the reviews and provide an excellent time for me and my guests. So far, everything has gone smoothly. When planning my party, I called the restaurant I found that the girls who answer the phone to be confused which isn't good. But, the manager seemed very capable and so, I am going into this with fingers crossed. I plan on writing a follow-up so, stay tuned.

    can you beat it?

There are few places in the city that have fresh, clean, great tasting Mexican food. Open 24 hours a day - you really can't beat it.
