La Esquina

I am so disappointed in this place. I've been going here on and off for the past few years. It's so close and I so desperately want a good mexican joint. But this place has consistently gotten more disappointing through the years. The chicken is dry and tastes like it's been sitting out, and the black beans are bland. And why do I need a reservation 3 weeks in advance? The operator was rude. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that's part of his job description. La Esquina obviously thinks they're so cool as to require reservations that far in advance when the food is not even good.

Went here last night with my two friends and none of us were impressed with la esquina. First, I ordered the blood orange margarita and the waiter flatly said the drink sucks, try the passion fruit. I understand in his opinion the passion fruit is better but what if I had this drink before and loved the drink! I just didn't feel it was necessary to say. Next we were ordering and our waiter kept talking to people passing by as we were giving our order. He then started looking at the people walking through the door, making us repeat ourselves once again. We ordered the empanadas and torta with lump crab which were both tasty. My friend ordered a side of black beans with his meal and got it with his starters, didn't really understand that. Also, how do they not offer tortilla chips and pico de gallo? My entree was the enchilada with a mole that my friend even said tasted like a chocolate bar. A good mole has spice and depth to it, this mole unfortunately was disappointing. My one friend ordered the pork tacos which kind of tastes like breakfast sausage. I don't mean to bash the place, it has a nice ambiance however I will not be returning to la esquina.

We made reservations 2 weeks in advanced for my friends 50th birthday. The minute we got there the waitress was on. At first I thought wow how attentive only to find that she wanted to "flip her tables do she can make money" her words. food was good but after the waitress told us how much time we had left to sit at her table, we decided to end it so she could make money bc she want getting any from us!

How can a Mexican restaurant NOT serve tortilla chips? And there's a "hamburgesa" on the menu. I don't get it.

Order from here all the time. I order a lot of delivery food and must say, the woman who usually takes my order is consistently friendly, sweet, and professional. The food's good and the prices aren't ridiculous. The corn is addictive here. Great place.

I went here a couple months ago with a friend for lunch. I wanted to sit outside but of course there no more tables... The food was okay, I would come back. But do not expect a lot from this place..

First time at La Esquina and won't be the last, can't wait to go back. I'm in the restaurant business and know how hard it is. I live in the UK but come to NY a lot and this place will be on every visit.
