underwhelming
I love hawai'ian bbq and I remember liking the L&L that was in a few locations in hawaii, but this one doesn't cut it. I remember I ate there couple of times when it opened and it was ok. But i went there recently again and ordred the BBQ mixed plate, and none of the meat was good, not even the chicken and i dont know how u can mess that up! The week after i went and ordered the chicken terriyaki and that wasn't good at all, even worse than the BBQ! undercooked or something. Its a shame, someone really needs to open a nice Hawaiian bbq take out spot in ny.

Local Kine!
For anyone who has lived in Hawai'i this is a godsend!! There is nothing like L&L and it's great to have one on the east coast. This is authentic Hawaiian fare-- awesome mac salad & chicken katsu which is always crispy and juidcy and even spam musubi-- my favorite! If you want a taste of true aloha, this is the place to go!

Going Downhill
I used to order from L&L when it first opened. The food was pretty good and better than I expected from a franchise spot on the mainland. Anyway, in the last couple of months, the L&L on Fulton started serving Japanese food because they combined with another business. Since then, it's gone downhill in terms of portion, value and service. Plate lunch is now served in a small bento box, so everything is smaller - but the prices have gone up! IMHO, it makes no sense to patronize a business that raises the prices but decreases in terms of value. The food is still okay, but you're better off going to the other L&L in Manhattan. Hopefully, they have not changed a thing!

Right on, Local Girl!
I'd like to second Local Girl's stellar review. Anyone from Hawai'i but now living in NYC will always ache for the distinct and hard-to-come-by taste of home. It's amazing I survived 4 years here without it. L&L may not be the best korean/japanese food you've ever had but that's the whole point, really. Hawai'i fast food is influenced by all different kind of Asian cultures and is it's own with perfect Hawaiian proportions and sides. Want an authentic and affordabel taste of Hawai'i WITHOUT pineapple drizzlings?? Go to L&L!

Coulda/shoulda been better
Obviously this isn't the spot for an authentic Japanese plate, but I have an open mind. I value portions just as much as the taste, which I'm relatively picky about. Chicken Katsu here is well portioned, tasty, though pleasantly simple it's a bit dry, so I thought Katsu curry would take care of that but I found the curry sauce to be quite weak in texture and causing meat to get soggy and heavy (especially with its large portions). Teriyaki was disappointing, just on par with a usual mall dish, so is the rice. Their combo plates are a bit more fun, but aren't too varied in taste from one another, and are somewhat cheaper than BBQ dishes served in $$ Korean/Jap BBQ joints. Prices here would have felt greater if the food was better, but the portions always suffice. The atmosphere is alright. This place is much better than the other location in NY, where I found the food to be more greasy.

Suprisingly Good
I ate there a few times when I went to the South Street Seaport. The first time I went there, it was just for convenience, and it was new, so I thought what the hell. I must say, I was really surprised by how good the food was. The portion was big, and it was not expensive. Looking forward to go there again the next time I go to the Seaport.

True taste of Home
For those who aren't familiar with what the "locals" eat in Hawaii, L&L's is a perfect example. The food is great and so are the portions! As any true local knows, a plate lunch is ALWAYS accompanied by "two scoops rice, one scoop mac salad" and L&L's doesn't disappoint. To reveiwer KO, yes the food is "sort of" Japanese...and sort of Korean and sort of Hawaiian, that's what makes a "mixed plate" - plate lunch. You may not understand it but ask any local about the food and they know, it's a combonation of everything good in Hawaii. Bring on the starch!
