We had a good time...
Take the star-ratings with a grain of salt: The food was very tasty, the atmosphere was just fine, the price seemed fair and the service was absolutely sufficient. There are a few Korean places in 32nd street and we went to this one because it was packed; when we left there were even a few people queueing outside! Because of this I was even more surprised to see the negative reviews. I have little to compare my experience here with, but we were all totally happy and had plenty of tasty food to get through the night.

harrased for tip
my friend and i went there for lunch and the meal was ok. when it was time for the bill i unfortunately did not have cash on my and my friend did so we split the bill. half in cash and half on my card. we left a 15% tip which was $6 dollars. i wrote my tip ($3) on my receipt for the use of my credit card and my friend left her portion of the tip ($3) in cash. as we were leaving my friend ( i was already outside) was stoppped and harrased initially by the angry waitress and then the manager as to why we only left $3 dollars as tip on the credit card receipt. they accused her/us of only leaving $3. we were not sure who took the bill, but we left our 15% tip ($6). my friend was made to feel like a criminal for the tip we left. first off, no customer should ever be scolded by the staff for the tip they choose to leave and secondly we did leave a 15% tip and it is not our fault other members of the waitstaff who collected our tip of $6 perhaps pocketed the remaining $3 dollars. this incident of being scolded by a waitress and a manager ruined our entire afternoon and made the food that we ate stomach churning.

Not worth your time
I went in expected pretty good food as a friend who travelled to NYC recommended this restaurant. We had a group of 7, a few who have not had korean food before. 1. Food was OK. We only went for Dug-Bok-Ki (Spciy rice noodles). It wasn't bad, but I've had better. 2. Service was not good at all. I am korean so I know that service in a korean restaurant is going to be poor. But this was the WORST. After we ordered 1 soup, and 2 dishes of the duk-bok-ki, the server looked at us and said "This isn't enough". I assured them that it would be, that a few of us had eaten before coming. And they insisted that it wasn't enough telling us we had to order more. So we ordered one more. They then decided to move us to a different table (no reason given) that we had to squish into. After that, we constantly received glares and scoffs from the servers and manager. The kindest person was one of the bussers, who remained polite the entire time. 3. At the end, we decided to give very little gratuitity - obviously because the service was absolutely brutal. I should note that we had a whole dish of the duk-bok-ki remaining after all of this. When the manager saw this, he came over and asked if that is the tip. After responding yes, he gave a speech of how he's running a business and this isn't appropriate. And so I responded that he made us order more food when we knew we couldn't eat it all, we did order drinks, he made us move tables after finding out we weren't going to order a lot, and the treatement from the servers wasn't appreciated at all. He then said, "I understand, but I need to run a business". I shrugged my shoulders, he simply said "Ok. Thank you". And we left. Definitely not a good experience. I would imagine for a city like New York, you'll find a better place for korean food.

Was OK and is slipping
The food used to be better but it is slipping! Not only the quality but the portion is getting smaller. I'm not a big eater at all,I prefer quality than quantity Never order two serve of meat at the same time. We ordered 2 serve of each beef and pork. The beef was almost the same as 1 serve! I asked the waitress and she confirmed that it was the 2 serves portion. the pork slightly more than the beef. Very tiny thinly pieces of beef and they charged for $40! We were supposed to get the complimentary egg but none. They cook the beef on the table but asked if they can cook the pork inside, and it took them so long to bring out the pork.We have even finished the beef and still waiting for the pork even after we asked number of times.May be that's why our beef portion was so small so we cant compare the size to the pork. The bill came before you finished the meal.

Used to be better...
I just went there with some friends last week, it was a shock. Three years ago, when I first tried Kunjip, food was tastier than how it's got now. Service has never improved, and food isn't as good.

former fan...
this used to be my place to go, but not so much anymore. the food is now bland, the wait staff still rude now borderline barbaric, and worst of all, they stopped bringing out the free little egg appetizers, which was my favorite...bring it back!

Great!
I went here with a Korean coworker and it was amazing. I feel like I could go without a "guide" but then I've eaten in much more confusing places and I don't feel like it would be a problem, just a bonus if you do have one. She did warn me about the spiciness of the soups but I ordered the spicy pork bone and potato soup anyway and it was definitely not too spicy for my palate (I can't take extremely spicy). It was utterly delicious, and the amount and variety of the side dishes, the purple rice and then the toasty rice cooked in water and the dessert tea were oh so bounteous, fascinating, and yummy. This is my Koreatown place from now on when the line isn't too long. :)
