Best in general and drinking foods

I been going to this restaurant for more then 15 years, I'm not sure why these people are giving negative reviews on this place. Sure it gets crowded and busy but why do you think that is? Do you think it will crowded if all the negative reviews are true? Get real people, I think you are either not understanding Korean culture or you are just sitting on a high horse expecting to be treated like you are in a 6 star hotel restaurant. Most of you probably don't even realize how Korean restaurants operate, there is no designated waiter/waitress for sections like typical American restaurants do. Everyone works together to provide service and tips are shared amongst them at the end of the day. You have to wave them down to get what you want instead of waiting and expecting as if they were mind readers.

In reply to the bad reviews...

I have been to Kunjip over 3 months ago and plan on going again this weekend. They told me the wait would be 10 minutes which turned out to be only 5. When they asked me what I would like to eat while I was waiting I did not get any bad vibe or anything. The way reviewers are complaining about that, you'd think it was a horror. I was glad that when we finally were seated we were able to get our dishes to us within the minute and enjoy them! So really you're not waiting much, in regular restaurants you would sit down look at the menu, order, then wait another 15 minutes for your food. I was happy to be eating right away. Also, I do not understand why someone would step into a restaurant of a different culture and not appreciate that things are done differently in different cultures. When they give you, your check that doesn't mean they expect you to start packing up and leave. After we got our check, they proceeded to bring us even more snacks out and this delicious cinnamon honey drink. Does that look like they were trying to "kick" us out? No. All in all I loved the food, the BBQ was on point, and there was a plethora of side dishes which were all equally delish! My pan fried octopus with noodles was also amazing. The lady who did the grilling at our table was super friendly, she was even hand feeding us some of the beef and teaching us how they would traditionally put together a morsel. All the other servers and waiters around us looked friendly, I didn't see any disgruntled customers. Hopefully I will receive the same hospitality this weekend when I return.

    Great saury casserole

Sauntered in of a Thursday afternoon and was delighted that I did. Though it was crowded the "five minute wait" turned out to be three. The plentiful garnishes and sauces immaculately served were delicious and the saury was properly spicy and generous in a sputtering pot. I did ask that the fire be put out. The service was polite, prompt and efficient. I'll be back.

    Will Never Go Back

I was so disappointed with KunJip. I am an avid Korean food eater and this was by far one the poorest Korean restaurant in Manhattan. The service was poor and they try to get you out the door as soon as possible. I brought my friends here and I was very embarrassed because the service was so poor. They started clearing the table while my friend was still eating her food. So in the end she was eating her Korean soup without ban chan and rice. I can't believe this place is still in business.

    really poor service

I kind of like food here. They really need to improve service. The woman answers the phone was so rude. I know they are busy but she should not hang up on customers!!

    Rude manager and service

Very crowded restaurant, but does not mean it is good. From the moment you sit down, you feel the pressure and stressful to rush finishing your food. The host and waiter are actually giving the attitude, they just want you to eat and leave, not even give you a time to digest. I had never experience such as poor service restaurant. I wonder why is still many people waiting there, they don't deserve to have a good rating. Food is simple, you can eat at any Korean restaurant. You can even get better quality, better service and better price. I will never go back .
