We happened upon this place just walking down the street and took a chance by going it. The atmosphere is definitely "old school" but we really enjoyed the food and the service. It's hard to find good sushi that's not extremely expensive in this area. I highly recommend it.

We were looking for a sushi place close to where we were staying in the Union Square area and were pleasently suprised to stumble upon Kumo. Despite the place being packed on a Saturday for the "all you can eat" crowd we had a table and a beer within 5 min. The staff was very friendly and fast. The sushi and appetizers are terrifically priced especially the 3 rolls for $9.95. The food came reasonably fast and was very good for the price. The location is very nice; styled in the modern fashion with big screens etc. Overall, I would highly recommend this place. Excellent food, value, and atmosphere for the money, unlike so many places these days!

Thsi restaurant has declined to the point that yesterday was my final vist! It was a much much better eatery prior to the renovations. I don'tt know if it has changed owners or not but the value is gone.I put it my usual tpi in the tip jar for the sushi chefs prior to ordering anything. My first order was overwhelmed with excess rice. So much so that I couldn't finish all the rice. The waitress had the audacity to inform me that on my next order I would incurr a charge for the left over rice. How gracious! And to boot they factor in an 18% gratuity. When I got up to leave the sushi chefs did not even bother to say good night. NEVER AGAIN!! Maybe that's why I found the place empty on a Saturday night. Don't they understand the concept of client retention? I guess not.

I decided to head on over to Kumo Sushi in hopes of enjoying their "All you can eat Sushi" special. It was a special all right, the rice that came on each sushi piece stood taller than the empire state building. That was then when i realized i was taken for a moron. My suggestion to this restaurants owner is to change the menu to read "ALL YOU CAN EAT RICE". I was disgusted to even eat further or order another bite stuffed, not satisfied, never going back again. Spent about $69 at the end for 2, and all i could remember was the rice and not the sushi, sorry but this restaurant i wouldnt recommend to anyone and wont ever return.

Order from this place all the time. It's one of the better sushi take-out places on the upper west side. They add in free rolls too. Quick delivery and fresh rolls.

Ordered take out from this place and it was clearly sub-par. The soy sauce tasted weird, the fish was a little fishy, and the rice was more like rice in a chinese restaurant than a japanese restaurant. Won't be trying this place again.

After trying several other sushi spots in our neighborhood we finally hit this place and have been ordering ever since. Thus far the sushi has always been fresh, great selection of rolls, good price and many times they add in an extra roll for free. This by far the best local sushi restaurant for takeout on the upper west side.
