    Greek Transporting Experience

This place is the real deal! I have eaten at all the good Greek restaurants in NYC and while some have food that occasional parallels some of the dishes at Kopiaste, none will transport you to Greece, or more specifically Cyprus, as this place will. I brought my 88 year old Cypriot Mom here who is very particular about dining on Greek restaurant food because she can cook better than most Greek restaurants I have been to, and I can say that this place passed the Yiaya (Greek Gramdma) seal approval with flying colors! It is her, and my favorite Greek/Cypriot restaurant this side of the Atlantic. Must try dishes are the Sheftalia (Sausage) and Kleftiko (Slow Cooked Spring Lamb that comes off the bone), both traditional Cypriot dishes that you cannot find at a Greek restaurant. The Lavraki (Charbroiled Fish) is also excellent. When you come to Kopiaste bring your appetite but also bring your dancing shoes as the place turns into an taverna where the dinners, young and old, cannot help but get up and dance off their great meal. Dollar bills start flying around as the gracious owner showers the the diners who take to the dance floor in a show of appreciation and revelry, as is the tradition (it's not just plates that get thrown about). You don't need to know traditional greek dance moves to take to the dance floor, just improvise as I did and let the music, the food, and the joy of the moment transport you. Yiasou!

    Food and entertainment

This place is fairly new has been open for about 8 weeks. I went there with a group of 6 we enjoyed the food and the live greek music was great! it was a saturday night and very busy but the server was on the ball and very attentive too. laid back cozy atmosphere and lots of dancing. we will definitely go back.
